View Full Version : Inaugural Trickery LAN at Chez Noodles...who'd go?

Q-Target

If we were to hold the first Trickery LAN at Noodles' LAN cafe would you go, assuming suitable accommodation in the Basildon area exists and isn't full of pikeys?

PLEASE NOTE: COMPUTERS ARE PROVIDED - but you MAY bring your own base unit if you absolutely have to

I had to live in Basildon on work placement when at uni. 15 years ago... you'd need wild horses to drag me back to that hole... no, seriously... its worse than you can imagine...

I grew up on Canvey Island...trust me, I can imagine worse. Yes, Basildon is dire...yes Noodles and Cheazy live there...but it's nice to know you can go home afterwards...imagine the depression that Cheazy and Noodles suffer at the end of the day...it's touching, it really is.

But basildon has the local toys r us!

Red7
14-Oct-2004, 20:31
I think its the best place to go to be honest.

If we have to sort out our own venue:

1, Everyone will moan because it isn't at their local pub.

2, It will never get done.

This way the people travelling from the ass end of no where don't have to drag their PCs about.

And lets face it, even if it is Basildon, you'd be sat infront of the computer for the whole weekend, you ain't going to be interacting with the populus.

14-Oct-2004, 22:33
basildon is full of pikeys.....and as for accomodation I think there's a travelodge outside the town?

Lord Fondlemaid
15-Oct-2004, 09:52
Nope too far I'm afraid. As I've said in another thread, any hotel in a central UK location will be screaming to host such an event at the weekend. Bringing a PC isn't the issue, it's the realtive travelling time for the attendees.

DeathStart
15-Oct-2004, 11:03
Travel time would be hellish for me - it takes us 4 hours to travel to the Midlands from Tyneside, Basildon would be... (fires up Autoroute) about 5 hours on the quickest route, not counting traffic etc.

It would be handier not having to dismantle PC Central and just use the ones there, but the main thing stopping me would be cost (petrol, accommodation, food/drink etc).

(edited for poor spelling :P)

Its right the way round the M25 for me so not THAT far, its more that fact it will be a bugger for me to take a train there and I don't want the wheels nicked off my car.

If you've ever travelled on the Fenchurch St - Shoebury line you'll know that you often wonder whether the wheels have been nicked off the train too.

I'lld go.

Just go clear up what QT said

"but you MAY bring your own base unit if you absolutely have to"

Thats a bit harsh. I'm quite happy for people to bring their base unit if they want to, and just borrow our monitors, or bring their whole rig.

If we can get enough people come, i'm allowed to shut the shop for the weekend so its just us

Martigan
15-Oct-2004, 16:29
How many is enough? Would the local totty still be be able to come in?

Noodles
15-Oct-2004, 16:43
would need about 30 people to be able to close the shop for the weekend, otherwise we are going to lose money from our regular customers.

It'd take me five or six hours to get to Basildon from Grimsby >:( I mean, you have to go to Lincoln or Doncaster just to get OUT of the northern reaches of Lincolnshire, and that alone takes more than an hour.

The best option is to hire the whole shop for the weekend, which will mean its closed to the public so we'll have it just for ourselfs. This means that the cost gets significantly lower as the amound of people gets greater.

20 people - £45 each for the weekend
25 people - £36 each for the weekend
30 people - £30 each for the weekend

My recommendations would be to try and get 25-30 people interested, we're not far off that, and I think we'lld have a really good LAN if we had the whole shop to ourselves.

PC/Monitor hire is free in this option btw.

As for dates, not sure. If we have it to close to i22 or christmas some people might not be able to make it.

I would recommend the first weekend in december or about mid jan.

List of places to stay in basildon.

http://www.basildon.gov.uk/80256B6C00357148/vWeb/wpAPSY57QDXX

One place works out £45 for a tripple room for a night. Thats £15 each for the mathmaticaly disadvantaged.

Means if we can get enough people interested, thats a LAN for under 50 quid including accomadation.

Jamey
18-Oct-2004, 06:11
A mound of people?

Sounds good. Might have to reconsider.

I voted No. However depending on the date, I *MAY* attend.
I thought your LAN place was fully equiped and we would not need to bring any kit?

If you need to book kit for me it would be all of the above.

A wireless access point would be good, as I would bring my Lappy!

Look I know I dont go onto IRC much anymore and that most of you lot dont know me (I dont like most FPS games in MP mode. The ones I do like arent very popular either)

But damnit. All these names. I'd like to see the faces that go with the names.

Plus I live just outside of Basilsnot. It was my place of birth and my original stomping grounds for the first 6 years of my life.

I just cant go until feb at the earliest as I'm moving out of the family home into my own swanky digs. So I'll be as broke as a student for a couple of months. Plus certain clan mates of mine are hinting for me to put them up in my place when I get it for this very event.

It'll be nice to meet some of the folks in the flesh. And maybe buy a few of the good ones a drink ;)

Trevor.
