Hullo :)
I'm currently nearing the end of my o2 Online 100 tariiff contract - after being on a company phone deal for a good few years beforehand.
What I'm wondering is what happens at the end of the contract (on 15th December)? I'm looking for a new-ish phone and wonder if o2 will send me a new handset and continue the tarriff or make me choose a new one?
Basically I'm wondering what the hell will happen next? :)
Any help greatly appreciated :)

Tbh, its probably easier to phone and ask them unless anyone here works for o2.
On second thoughts....knowing what o2's automated calls r like probably not.
I think if you don't tell them you want to end the contract they will automatically swap you over to the next standard tarrif, if you were on a one off deal before.
If this happens and you want a new phone then you can upgrade to a new handset providing its one year since the last new handset. This would make sense, as I can't see they would cancel the contract to then give you a new one, with a new number just for a new handset. They would just tell you to upgrade. But.... when I was with o2, I always found they charged alot more to upgrade than one of the high st shops like The Link did, so find out their prices first.

Cheers for the reply mate, much appreciated :)
I have a Samsung E700 at the moment and, whilst it's a very good phone imo, it's no Nokia so I plan on getting a nice bulky 6600.
I've been wondering whether just to buy a sim free one now for about £150 - or to wait until the contract is nearly up and ring o2 to ask for another handset.
I hate ringing o2 though. It costs a fortune and I can't help but question the person dealing with the call's erm "expertise".
The tarriff isn't a one off deal btw. It's one of a number of "online only" one's offered by o2.

nooo don't go to the dark side! i haven't had a nokia since my 7110 which was about 3 years ago...i find that they're a bit 'common'. don't kill me yet! they make good phones...but i find that every tom, dick or harry has one and i prefer to stand from the crowd personally, i like a bit of attention now and again :P
since the 7110 i've had a samsung t-100 (first truly full colour screen phone on the market when i bought it i think? should've been paid £150 plus contract for it!), a motorola v70 (the rotating thing) and now i have a motorola mpx200.
i had a choice between that and a sony ericsson z600, i think i shoulda gone for the sony in hindsight...its a nicer phone after looking at my friends one. i think the fact that its a smartphone and has an sd mmc expansion slot got me interested in it initially in the shop, with a mini usb port on the phone i could use my phone like my flash drive and save work to the phone instead of carrying another bit of gadgetry in my pockets.
apart from the t-100 which i hadda pay for the others were free upgrades, o2 phoned me up a couple of weeks before the contract was due. i found the o2 upgrade options were a little be more limited than some of the others, they offered me 5-6 different fones free of charge. my mate who's on vodafone was offered any phone in their entire range free of charge, when it was time for her upgrade. she chose the nokia 6230 in the end.
i'm on o2 100 at the mo, hadda upgrade from o2 50 to get the phone for free.
aye nokia's are pants
there are so many better phone (manufacturers) out there, such as sony, motorola, samsung and siemens
if you're looking for a simple phone, the sony k700i might just do you fine and dandy, has a mp3 player too :)

Thanks both very much for your replies :)
I rather like the look of the mpx200 actually - is it easy enough to use and, more importantly, to text with (I am somewhat of a text maniac) and the k700i isn't bad either but I still quite like the 6600 or even the 7610, which I've just been genning up on but am unsure whether o2 have them.
You are absolutely right mick about the Nokia's being a little "common" though - I suppose that's why I went for the Samsung E700 that I have now. Except that everyone else had the same idea and got one at the same time :D
I'm more than willing to up the tarriff to the online100 as I tend to spend a little more than my monthly 22.50 anyway so I shall look forward to the call from the people at o2 a bit closer to the time. Or I may pre-empt 'em and ring them on 15th November - exactly a month before the contract expires - and see what they can offer me.

sorry its taken so long to reply, its been a busy week in the office for me. i'm supervising our office move and i had a football tournament to organise over the weekend aswell!
the mpx200 is ok, tho for me i find it reacts a little slow sometimes? i text more often than talk myself aswell. one gripe i have with my phone is that the '5' key sticks sometimes and doesn't register that you press it more than once so you get 2 or 3 j's appear on the screen instead of k or l.
other than that all's fine and dandy for what i use it for. however there is also the mpx220 and the razr v3 on the market, both by motorola aswell and are hell of a lot more sexier than the mpx200, especially the razr v3 (although it is rather expensive at this moment in time).
you'll probably find that they give you a call before the contract runs out as they try and keep you as their customer, rather than to lose out to one of their competitors. they'll probably be trippin over themselves and offer you really good deals to keep you with them.

Thanks mick I shall await their call then.
In the meantime I'll have a look at those other models you've suggested :)
