Do any of you know of a program that will log (to a text file) what happens when I start a game?

The info I'm hoping to find is what causes a delay when I start BF1942. From clicking the game icon to reaching the multiplayer server screen takes @ 2 mins. Then, when I've selected a server, another 2 minutes of black screen followed by 4 minutes waiting for the map to load.

I'm convinced the problem relates to my GeForce FX5200 (Asus, using Nvidia drivers) graphics card. I don't recall the same thing when I had a GeForce 2 GTS.

Machine spec;

Windows 98, 2000XP cpu, GeForce FX5200 (Asus, using Nvidia drivers), 5400 rpm hd (often defragged), 512 meg DDR2100, Directx 9

what sort of information do you wish to log?

Hopefully the time each step of the sequence takes. This way, I imagine I could determine where the problem lies.

Though I've mentioned BF1942, I do have a similar problem with every game. Even TFC...@ 40 seconds.

It's amazing the difference a 7200 RPM drive can make to a setup like that!

I would also recommend Upgrading to Win2k or Xp over 98, that way you can use NTFS which is a quicker file system than FAT32.

Back to the issue though - have you tried changing the GPu back the G2 that you had or have you sold it?

I suspect you do not have the correct mobo drivers installed. In paticular the AGP bridge.

Go into device manager and look for 'AGP Controller' or something similar. Look at its properties and see who the manufacturer is. If its Microsoft you need to get the mobo drivers for your chipset.
