Anyone know of any way to get out of this effectively? Yesterday in training the only way we were shown was by using all your strength to turn them over you into a scarf hold of your own.

I ended up being paired with the highest grade (other than the instructor) there. And when i had them in a scarf hold they couldn't get out of it. So anyone know of a way out?

Looking at it I would get to my knees, which looks pretty simple to do by just swinging them back. From there you should be able to twist you opponents torso into a rather uncomfortable position. Can't say I've been held like that before, looks pretty damn effective and your only really option does appear to be your legs. Wouldn't mind giving it a go :D

What martial art is you're doing, I'm sure it's been said but can't recall.

If it was a street fight from the postion of the head couldn't you bite his nipple and where is the other arm? If possible stick you thumb up his arse (I remember reading a book about a wrestler and he used to do that when he was in a difficult lock or hold and it seemed to work). But I guess in a tournament there does not look like much you can do.

Also is the hold a choke as well?

Anyway enough talking bolloxs from me, time for bed.

You won't be expecting it. Oh and it will be going in dry - no spit on the thumb.

Personally, I would push his torso towards your feet, from here, you can lift the left leg up, put it over his face and push him away. This would also give you a good oppurtunity for the armbar.

his floor contact seems weak; I bet with a bellyflop you could get him to try to consolidate, then roll the fucker on his back. Go for the head on the rollover.

Probably the best idea but its still extremely hard to do that and requires alot of energy.

spl@t i do ju-jitsu. and nah you cant get up on to your knees. your back doesnt bend that way lol

I never said it would be easy. Jiu-Jitsu fighters need to have good conditioning, because grappling is MUCH more tiring than any other form of combat ;)

I spose the best defence would be to not be stupid enough to get yourself into that positon in the first place :D

No. When theyre in that position, there is too much space between blues armpit and whites throat. All that position is good for, is holding your opponents face in the way while you pummel f**k out of it :D

Ask Dizmatt, he is a jitsu ninjar grand master or summat.

It's easy to put an arm lock on too

Thats a nasty looking and bloody effective hold, only two ways i can see to get out of it, use the arm his holding by lifting it into his should and then move it outwards suddenly may be able to disslocate the shoulder. If his hold on the elbow is not strong quick downwards hits with the elbow into the top of the groin should give him rly a rather nasty dead leg and stun him.

The position of the trapped guys legs could give him the ability to spring up and role the opponent. Only other thing to do is not get in that position in the first place....i bloody hate holds as they are so effective that even the best fighter can have major problems getting out of them.

depending on how exposed his head is, try rolling back such that you get your leg over his head. you can then scissor his neck with the back of your knee to his adams apple.

if you can do this it turns a nasty attacker into a very desperate individual extremely quickly. it's something i've done a couple of times whilst developing escapes from floor holds. a word of warning - if you manage this, be gentle...you could cause a lot of neck damage and easily black your opponent out in around 15secs if used with 'street force'.

oh, and the scarf hold i learned was from the back where you form a constriction from under one arm and around the opposite side of the opponents neck. that's nigh impossble to get out of, and also allows pressure to be applied with the blade of the forearm bone into the jugular nerve centre [should one require extra persuasion against a struggler]. oh yeah, and you can rest his spine on your knee for extra effect...

Sounds basically the same as I described, except that instead of switching from the neck crank to the armbar, youve continued with the neck crank and turned it into a choke hold. I like :) Very sadistic my friend :D Want to see you in here more often!
