Comes out this friday on PC/PS2/EggsBox/Spectrum

Looks pretty damn good if you fancy some arcade racing and dont have a PS2/Xbox to play Burnout 3.

review! http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=57068

This screenshot (http://www.eurogamer.net/assets/articles/a57068/FlatOut_Pic6.jpg) alone surely makes the game worth buying :D

XBox version is great fun - I have a wheel for my Xbox so I can't use the Momo excuse (I have a Momo wheel for my PC) - highly recommend this game - whatever format you choose :)

Just read this:

Since the official FlatOut forum seems to be down, I write this here.

I sneaked in some "secret" commandline parameters to enable online play, over internet.

It's quite simple. The host just starts the game with
"flatout -host"

The joiner joins with "flatout -join=ip" where ip is the ip of the host.

There are some other more advanced options too, especially useful for playing behind a NAT. But even theese basic options should work with the joiner behind a NAT. As long as he is not behind the same NAT as the host. If the host is behind a NAT, then the only option you can use is to use port forwarding.

In that case the joiner needs to add an additonal parameter, "-publicaddr=ip:port".

If the host wants to change the port he can do so, in the options.cfg file in the savegame folder. In that case the joiners either need to join with "-join=ip:port", or change the port in the options.cfg. The joiners can choose any port in the options.cfg, no matter what the host chooses.

The alternative commandline "-join=ip:port" is also usable in another case. If the host can configure his router, and uses non one to one port forwarding. I can explain that in more detail later, if needed.

Additionally you can specify "-password=balbla" Both the host and all clients needs to use the same password in that case.

NOTE:
This is almost totally untested by Bugbear, or Empire, so we cant promise that it works.

Does that stunt jump bit feature in the full version?

Scouseknight
13-Nov-2004, 00:08
Full version has the "Rag Doll Olympics" or at least the XBox version has - it has the Long Jump, High Jump and a giant Dartboard among the events.

Although I am so cack-handed I can't do 'em ;)

BBW
13-Nov-2004, 00:14
Is it as good as Burnout 3 then?

Scouseknight
13-Nov-2004, 00:58
This question rings a bell ;)

In my honest opinion - yes - this is better than Burnout 3 - in my opinion - but I would think many would disagree.

I am biased - it works with my steering wheel - and I just love the handling - I like oversteer slides - must be my Grand Prix Legends background ;)

Bad points : Can't join a game when a race is in progress

Good points : As smooth online as it is offline, choice of handling (normal or professional), virtually everything on any track is destructable, ragdoll crashes are hilarious, it does what it says on the tin.

This is the new Midtown Madness 3 - for those who were around on Xbox Live when that came out.

Ak! I forgot I asked that in the other forum :o

Cheers SK.

Only problem with multiplayer is if somebody gets away at start and avoid the carange the tracks and really difficult enough in themselves for people to catch up.
Still had some quality 8 player races at i22 though :D mucho carnage.

Back from i22! Flatout is about the best LAN game I have ever played seriously good fun. Loads of people from other clans kept asking me what it was and saying how great it looked while we were playing. I should be on comission!

There isn't a easily accessible multiplayer in the game ye, except of LAN for up to 8 players of course.
But you can play normal multiplayer at the moment via direct connect to the host's ip

commandline is:

flatout.exe -join=THE IP HERE

flatout.exe -host

But by using the finnish fan made FlatOut Joiner.exe, you can avoid all that command line crap.

http://www.bob-game.info/flatout_joiner.zip

And there is a project in the making that will include a server list, and then you can see all the gameservers and connect directly, like in many games.

Here's a 0.2 beta version of the server list program I mentioned.

http://mirror.paha.net/FlatOutNet.zip
http://koti.mbnet.fi/juzaria/FlatOutNet.zip

And this is finnish fan made too.

It's still not working very well, but if you give the makers some time, it'll be a great program.

Yeh saw that, but unless the makers fix the connectivity issues it wont help much. Shame really, sounds like the publishers forced them to release before xmas not giving them enough time to include proper multiplayer for PC.

The following items have been fixed or improved:

* Fix for the nVidia 66.93 drivers. The game no longer crashes when a race

is started. The game has also been tested up to the 67.03 drivers

with no problems found.

* Engine fire burns aligned to the car's coordinates, e.g. when the car is

upside down, flames go down.

* Tuning menu: BHP meter and colors randomly switch when changing profile.

* Flip back and forth to statistics screen and the BHP grows bug.

* Force feedback slows game in some cases.

* 5.1 sound support is not working on some setups.

* Disconnects when returning to the lobby in multiplayer games.

* When the game briefly minimizes before starting a multiplayer game,

sometimes gives a blue screen (this is quite rare,

but it does happen sometimes)

* Only 2 players can play if NetLimiter is installed.

* Bug with public ip detection, if the commandline

network options are used.

* Enabled a switch to allow the player to turn off ragdoll in single

player (located in the Options Menu).

* Enabled multiplayer destruction derby.

That will be top crack for LANs :D

I got hold of a copy of this for £20 (Xbox version) in GameStation's sale, and it's really great fun. I've never seen such carnage in one game, reminds me of the first time I played Destruction Derby on the PS (I'm so old...).

If anyone wants a game on Live, give me a shout (you can probably guess my gamertag if you've not got it already), I'd love a race.

had a few goes online with my bro and his mate and it has been a lot of fun, wondering if there is enough interest from trickery peeps to get some mass online carnage goin

Ive played 8 player online games tht have been adequately stable. C'mon you know you want to!!

We could coordinate the effort with Xfire (if you use it tht is) as i have modified the flatout entry to allow xfire in game to work so we can communicate with each other in game.

Ah the memories. Fun game for sure.

With a proper MP interface it would have roxored. The one they hacked in there did the job, but by not polishing it some more they really missed out on something special.
