I voted The Matrix, simply for special effects such as bullet time. I'm sure there are more revolutonary films than in this list...
Pulp Fiction- Outstanding
The Dark One

Also voted for Matrix, but only the first one as it did set new standards (just failed to live up to them in parts 2 and 3!)
Yeah but Metropolis invented the whole Sci-Fi genrea, that gets my vote :)

Never heard of it :P
Made in 1927, B&W silent film.
It's abit strange and scary at times, but definately worth getting to see what people in 1927 thought the future would be like.

Anybody who voted Matrix needs a slap, Matrix was just Anime done in live action. 2001 is the most groundbreaking film for me on that list, did so many things films hadnt done before. Also the fact it still looks good now so long after release, apart from the dodgy monkey suit, shows how good it is.

Metropolis it set a new standard and genre. would we have had aliens or 2001? maybe/maybe not
Why are they revolutionary?

Metropolis...
first onscreen dystopia, critique of totalitarianism... first overtly political popular-culture film (I beleive)
and sodding good.
that's my vote.
Edit:\\ Bloody good list of choices you compiled though, I'd only really add an early Disney (if I knew what their first feature length was) as a kick-start to the animated film genre which is sodding popular nowadays with the mighty Pixar/Dreamworks offerings every year or so. And, a Marilyn Monroe romantic comedy like 'The Seven Year Itch' because of the many, many imitators now like the American Pie series (simply adding smutty humour to the package) and the Hugh Grant films (a hint of 'Britishness')...
i'd also like to mention that very old film that has the mans face in the moon (think the Smashing Pumpkins stole ideas off it for a video), and one of the first examples of film technology: a racehorse, running, in a loop. Both much more revolutionary in their time than any wachowski creation.
Still, dont know why theres any fuss about 'revolutionality' anyway, surely a films worth is based purely on the viewers response to it, not on in its influence on later creations.
Matrix.
A lot of action films that has come out after it tries to copy the style, e.g. Romeo Must Die, The One, Bulletproof Monk etc etc.
Also imho its about the first original idea for an action film that I have seen in a long time and there are a lot of levels that keep different types of audiences happy.
Also I think that all those films were revolutionary in some way because they changed/altered the way film were made.

That would be Le voyage Dans La lune (Trip to the moon) by George Melies from 1902 One of the most pioneering filmakers ever born, lots of trick photography and the first special effects to speak of.
Surely Star Wars should be on there.

I did wonder why Star Wars wasn't on the list since it was quite groudbreaking in terms of sci-fi... stuff :)

Well, I wouldn't call it that groundbreaking tbh, it only really bought back the narrative drive that had been forgotten from years past, effects wise 2001 was the immediate forefather imo, but I voted for Metropolis, if only to stay up there with the matrix which was eeking ahead too much for my liking ;)
I like King Kong the best on that list, plus it as the best ending line in a film ever :)

Silent Running.
It proved that Sci-Fi didn't need to be cliched and full of aliens attacking earth to be good!
Also one of the few films that moved me! (emotionally - not in a bowels sense :/ )
I think the effects people also went on to do Star Wars, taking what they had learned from that film.. IIRC - which i probably don't :D

nope, your right :) I still like Silent Running, a little twee now, but at the time very moving I agree, esp when Luey(I think) died /sniff, then he went with the mashed up one to explosive oblivion leaving Huey to water the plants
Very unresearched list impo.
Blade Runner.

Agree with you that it should have been included on that list, IMO Bladerunner was THE most influential popularist movie made in the last 25 years, it inspired and fawned numerous films from all genres regarding set design and attention to detail. Read Future Noir: The making of Bladerunner by Paul. M. Sammon, one of the very best books regarding film.

Matrix - Awesome film. However we must remember that it is responsible for ruining just about every fight scene in any action movie made since it was first seen! Bullet time is EVERYWHERE these days and I am extremely bored of it now.
I would have "It's a Wonderful Life" and "The Godfather" (Part I or II) on that list.
Cheers.
In what way are they 'revoluntionary'?

all of the films listed are revolutionary in their own way bar the Matrix. it's a brilliant film, but the only revolutionary feature is obviosly bullit time, and after seeing it being used in so many action and spoof films now, i wish it had never been used.
Psycho is great cos that spawned the "slasher" genre. Metroposis, as wierd as it sounds now, is so good cos look at what they thought the future would look like. this is 1927 btw and their vision isnt too far off, as the ideas are there.
It's a shame that most people voted for the matrix and oh wot a crap list. It just shows how little you appreasiate classic cinema and all u go for in a movie is special effects. sad tbh, but its the way this industry works nowadays, and u all fall for it.
Might as well say The wild bunch revolutionised cinema cos it was the first truly ultraviolent film
Very unresearched list impo.
Blade Runner.
Yes, I didn't do much research for the list.
There isn't much genre variety. It's a poll on an internet forum - I just looked on Amazon and chose some films that I enjoyed and that I think suited. I am aware that there are films that should be in the list that I havent seen, that's why it's good people are posting others.

Pulp Fiction.
The Matrix.. revolutionary? BS
technologywise it was. First use of a truly independant camera.
