To keep you warm this winter invest in some! (plus I'll be bald soon so may end up wearing one all the time like The Edge :D)

It is nice, you can wear and feel good in it I find, I've got a 30 quid D&G tee, people think cos it's D&G its mega expensive. Thats their only drawback I think, as most of it is just that.

well thats the thing... not being funny but people 'wear' d&g just so they can look the part and feel like they're wearing a million dollars, but when in reality, its cheap tat :) no offense mate! but it goes along the same as YSL, both of which, yeah they use to be decent brands, but they've sold out, and now are being sold at places like JD Sports! of all places.

and that silas one is a beanie :) its just been 'stretched' when being modelled in that photo, the beanie is retailed at about £35, the gloves, £22, the scarf £40, obviously I didn't pay that price as I got staff discount on all of em!

Silas is great! you should support a brand which is designed and based in your own country ie England ! :D

that beanie of mine was put together and made in scotland :) Silas is of top quality stuff, I have a £180 Silas jacket and it rocks! so nice and warm for this weather. The reason I love Silas is that their branding is incredibly minimal with a lot of their stuff and doesn't have their Brand written all over their jumpers or what have you. Also they have great attention to detail.

don't get me wrong, everyone has different tastes, I just personally don't like d&g...

haha no chance, Silas is pretty exclusive, you won't find, well never will find it in a sports store like JD Sports :) infact I'm pretty sure all Chavs probably hate it as its not 'expensive' enough for them or the fact you can't get fakes down your local market

Hmm im not a beanie wearer. I wear wooley hats but the ones I like have to be plain and have a turn up to keep the ears doublely warm. I brought about 5 from H & M (2.99 each if i remember right) not last winter but the one before. Im down to me last one now not because they poor quality but i gave 2 to me nephew and my bro has stole the other 2.

never been a huge fan of beanies. or hats in general. if its cold, i put my hood up.

having said that, i have 2 hats, and they're both win. one of them i've taken to wearing more or less daily.

I'm more of a wooly hats person, the beanies just don't float my boat, though that rip curl one looks cool, and the Silas scar is very nice as well.

It always make me laugh when people like you/us make claims like that. Anyone with an interest in fashion, and/or likes to atleast try and look good, buys clothes to look the 'part'. The part they are trying to achieve of course varies. For instance, you try and achieve an ever so slightly retro look, mixed with a touch of skater - and whilst ud prolly hate to admit it, a smidge of emo. Now theres nothing wrong with that, and I do the same, but would you wear an Armani leather jacket? If not, why not? Cos ur just trying to look the 'part'... also, there are brands that are technically one hundred times better for gloves and hats, and would actually keep you from getting cold, would you wear them? Prolly not. Why? Cos they dont have some obscure brand on them.

I will be sporting a Spyder "beanie" this year, and my gloves are by Dakine. (Neither of which are branded on the outside!) Not sure where you could get them, both were bought in France... bu if you want good hats, www.snowandrock.com

All this was written in Diesel Jeans, a dsl55 tee, Air force 1's and I'm just about to put my Religion jacket...

Most of my warm/wet weather gear is "proper" makes, not fashionable stuff. I have a cracking Lowe Alpine coat, Lowe Alpine wooly hat, Berghaus windstopper goretex fleece etc. You just can't beat these companies for good kit that lasts forever.

Jim
10-Dec-2004, 15:03
Here here! Lowe Alpine make some cracking gloves too, however some of them have this funny lining in that comes away from the fingers, so if you get a pair with lining make sure its stitched at the ends!

Yeah I own a fair bit of Berghaus gear and it is great, built for the great outdoors so it's really durable and goretex rocks.

I have a cool mesh Vans beanie that I wear, and my girlfriend is getting me a hat like the one Fran Healy wears on the 'Band Aid 20' video and on other occassions..

Vans hat... (http://www.glurb.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/PC100041.JPG)

My scarf of choice, apart from various striped ones, is my lovely Kuffiyeh (http://www.glurb.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/PC100043.JPG)

I guess you're right Jim, but emo?! is it the converse all stars or the era vans which give me that look? :(

I am looking into getting a decent all year round 'rain' jacket, for when it pisses or snows it down... something light which I can wear in the summer, but when come winter, well I tend to layer up (its all about the layers) anyway.

I was considering to get a Carhartt one, but after some research, it seems they aren't 100% waterproof ie. no tapered seems, anyway my boss recommended that I should check out Berghaus or North face, or even Gortex, as I'll be getting my moneys worth. So if I'm spending £100+ on a jacket, I might as well get a decent one :) which is 100% waterproof, and not just 'splash proof'

Jim

You fail to see the inherent humour in saying that scarfs are going to be big in this winter? A bit like saying "bikinis are going to be in down the beach this summer" or "condoms are going to be in while fucking a 2 two bit whore with herpes". And you call me the chav ?

anyway my boss recommended that I should check out Berghaus or North face, or even Gortex, as I'll be getting my moneys worth. So if I'm spending £100+ on a jacket,

Gortex isn't a make of jacket, it's a material unless they've changed something in the last couple of months. It's very good as it's waterproof and breathable so you don't sweat as you would with another material. Just to illustrate how good it is at it's job I managed to walk through a river without any water passing through, unfortunately as I got half way over it went over the top, made it quite difficult to dry them :D

Other companies offer some alternatives which work just as well, one being triple point but I forget who uses it and cba to go look.

I think they currently do two main types of material, one slightly lighter than the other.

Anyway:

http://www.cotswold-outdoor.com/Cat/2913

Personally I'd go for Berghaus as that's pretty much the only outdoor brand I've ever bought but it depends what fits you best.

Got an animal technical jacket and an oakley equivalent, both very good and a bit more casual.

i look stupid in beanies. i look stupid in most hats. but i look least stupid in those wide brimmed, indiana jones but less battered hats (do they have a proper name?). Sadly i feel more stupid wearing them because they're unfashionable to an extreme degree and the only people that wear them are fantasy writers and texan tourists.
