Ummm, most of my free's have been after the 1st season.
The best ones have been:

Diego Klimowicz
Striker
30 when you can get him.
Free after 1st season.

Mario Alberto Santana

(Sold him to Real Madrid the season after for 5.5mil, should of been more, Bloody selling clause)

In my 3rd season there still my cb pairing of my Newcastle team which won the prem twice, league cup twice, uefa cup and reached the cl final.

Legrotaillie actually won European Defender of the Year in my 3rd season.

Get Berbatov at the end of the 2nd season (I think its that), he is one of best strikers I have ever had on any CM game.... He's my club top scorer with 167+ goals atm, and he has a good few years left in him yet :)

I think Gronkjaer is available in same season too (might be end of first season, I forget) He has to be one of the best wingers in the game. He got 28 assists in one season for me and can play on the right or left... and also holds the record for season average (8.30 after 40+ apps I think)... He's just retired on mine though in 2012 :( He is the god of crossing !
