Looking for a cheap laptop that I can just use t'internet, irc, winamp and word processing programs on.

Only needs to have a HDD around 5 - 10GB and a USB slot so I can get a bluetooth dongle and share the internet over this PC. Battery life is not an issue since only places I will be using it are in the house and possibly on a train which has plug sockets anyway. Anyone selling one or got a place that sells them reasonably cheap.

Cheers.

well, a laptop seems like a bit of an unlikely find on here to me. Maybe i'm wrong, but i'd nto have thought there were many people looking to sell laptops on trickery cause it's nto been advertised anywhere else. :o

Just to give you an idea for a price I sold my Compay Presario 1200 something for £200 bout 6 months ago. Was 550 odd mhz, 96mb, 5gb hd, crappy screen, cdrom only.

Definately try and get a tft screen or whatever the other ones are called. Mine was one of those older screens and its no fun to use.

ah you mean the ones that have pretty much no colour on them ?

Colour was fine, but you couldn't really look at it at much of an angle.

yes, but that's different. This is a gaming community, and a laptop would be something of interest to the majority of people. If someone had one to sell, I reckon we'd see a post somewhere about it outside of here, seeing as many still lack access to this forum.

Anyway, enough of that. Dell do nice laptops for about £600 though, if that's within your price range.

I have one - possibly two - Dell Lattitude P2-266 with CD and excellent TFT screen, 128Meg Ram and ?10? gb HD which are free to a good home. (Don't expect blazing performance but its fine as long as you don't mind a bit of a chug to start-up).

I love you flossie......thats all I need really. It is just for word, irc and browsing in bed really or downstairs. I take it they have some way I can give them bluetooth capabilities such as USB ports :x

ProfLiebstrom
17-Dec-2004, 16:26
Yes.

Did I ask a stupid question then asking if it has a PCMCIA slot? Do all laptops have them then?

BBW
17-Dec-2004, 17:29
I wouldn't have been so unpolite about your question, but yes. It's kind of like a PCI slot on a desktop PC, do you know of a PC without a PCI slot?

moron
17-Dec-2004, 17:29
pretty much all have them, if i were you i'd grab the manuals from dells site and check whether they're pcic or cardbus pcmcia slots (i think) as the standard changed a while back and modern (cardbus) don't work in older slots.

ProfLiebstrom
