By Audrey Niffenegger.
My new favourite book.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0224071912
It is about the relationship between a woman and a man whose genetic disease causes him to spontaneously, uncontrollably disappear, and then reappear naked elseswhere in time (only his body can time travel, no clothes, etc).
From her perspective a man of varying age keeps appearing in her life briefly, helping her with homework and advice and stuff, starting at her aged 6. From his perspective a beautiful girl comes up to him one day and says she has known him all her life (somewhen in his future he starts to travel back to her childhood).
Despite it being about time travel, it is not a sci fi book (my normal reading matter, but my mum recommended it to me, and her recommendations are usually pretty good) it is more of a love story, but please dont let that turn you off.
I have not finished the book yet, but you can just tell the romance will be tragic. (But the hope you feel for the couple just proves how deeply you are pulled into the story.)
I highly recommend this novel to anyone. I have tried to convince my scifi hating friends to read Iain M Banks, for example, but know in my heart that they will never like it. Me loving his books does not mean that others will, but with this book, I do genuinely believe that everyone I recommend it to will really love it.
