the devs are working on this, seems nice. its a cut'n;paste for you lazy people out there, so there are some colours missing.
In Concept
Commanders List
For our first In Concept article, we'd like to discuss systems for improving the Commanders' ability to keep order on the battlefield and empower them with greater communication tools for coordinating Empire-wide operations.
These will be abilities that can be accessed (by players of CR1 and above) via a new button on the Command Dialog (located on the map interface) called "Command List." When a player clicks this button, a complete list of all Commanders on that continent, ordered and categorized by Command Rank, on that continent will be displayed in a sidebar.
The listing will initially only display the Command Rank categories, but clicking on them will dropdown a full list of all Commanders at that Rank. If the Commander is in a squad, the number of people in their squad will be displayed next to their name. The list will further indicate, through color codes if the Commander is currently leading a Squad or Platoon. Platoon Leaders will further display, through an inset in the Command List, the other Squad Leaders in their Platoon.
So, a Commanders List might look something like this (colors shown are for example only and will not be the actual ones used in the list):

In this example, the CR5 category is open and displays all of the Commanders of that Rank on the continent. (Note: The colors shown here are for example only and do not represent the colors that would be chosen upon implementation.)
Blackbird is in a squad but is not commanding it, so there is no number by his name.
PanicFinger is leading a squad of six people, as indicated by the colored number next to his name.
SmokeJumper is leading a Platoon with a total of 17 people in it. There are seven people in his actual squad. Solis leads one of the Platoon squads, but he is CR 2, so is displayed in the color of that category. TSlothrop leads the other, but has no Command Rank, so his name is displayed in gray.
Sporkfire is not part of a squad, so there is no number displayed by his name. He doesn't need a squad because he is the best player in PlanetSide ever.
Additionally, Command Rank 4 and 5 Commanders will be able to see Commanders globally, with the continent listed for each person in the list.
Organizational Tools
Next to each category in the Commanders List, there will be a button titled "Visual". Clicking this button will display the position of all Commanders in that category on the Continent map. Each Commander will be represented by the number corresponding to their name. This will let high ranking Commanders organize and keep tabs on Empire-wide movements at a glance.
Communication Features
Commanders can easily send other Commanders private /tell messages by double clicking that Commander's entry in the Commanders List. This will create a /tell dialog in the chat window to that Commander. To protect Commanders from being spammed with tells from this feature, they may choose to go /anon and not be listed
