Since using an old workmates SPV ( the original ) I've always believed this phone to be one of the best on the market. Excellent screen, colours, phone interface, gui, capability, etc, etc.

When the E100 was released it was near perfection except it didn't have a camera. Now the E200 is coming and that has everything I need. It is, in my personal opinion, the ultimate mobile phone.

I'm hoping it'll be on Pay as you Go because I'm on the original outhere deal ( since 1998 I reckon I've saved around £500+ ). The Orange website seems to tease me by saying it might just be out on Pay as you Go ( if it was I'd be in heaven ) but somehow I have my doubts as do mobile phone salesmen all over Torbay.

Two questions really ..

1) Do you think there's a chance for this god like mobile phone to come out on pay as you go ?

2) What's your opinions on the phone? I know I'm totally inlove with it but just because I like the SPV series doesn't mean you all do. Would be interesting to hear some other feedback.

1) Yes, it will go pay as you go. Networks want to make money, and the built in PPC for Phones makes it an ideal choice for kids who want to use MSN instead of text. It will be chuffing expensive on Pray as you Go, much like the P900 from S/E is

2) I personally don't like the OS on the phone, really dislike the MS Mobile software. Feature wise its jam packad and offers everything. If you like the OS, you can't really go wrong, and its MS so you'll have plenty of updates :) Lets hope its a little more stable than the first SPV tho'

If you want to get your hands on one, hassle your local Orange shop, they'll probably be able to find out before anything on the web appears about it.

Are you sure it'll be pay as you go?
The older SPV's were only contract ;(

The market place for phones has changed alot in recent years. Even if they're not, there'll be a way to get one on Orange Pray as you Go

the P900 is avaliable on pay as you go? Pants.. I just got me a Nokia

Anyhow, again I dont like OS, I've always been more into EPOC but if you're into it then thats what counts eh? I wouldn't have expected Orange to release it directly on Pay as You go, smartphones and such like usually aren't (never the ones I want anyway, perhaps its just sods law). I dont know too much about how Orange work (I have a Sim with the outhere pack on aswell though I find o2's 'pay as you go online' offer even better) but with o2, their exclusive phones are avaliable sim-free. Seems a wierd prospect, but if Orange do this as well then that's the way to go... of course if it does come out on Pay as you go, even better (it will be cheaper) but thats kinda it... Pay as you go, Sim-free, or you tie yourself down to a contract :|

There are other similiar phones around.. if you arne't actually as attatched to the SPV E200 as you sound :P Expansys is always a good place to check them out... http://www.expansys.com/

I talked to a salesman who was really into the SPV series and while giving me examples, this is what he had to say.

The new OS kicks the crap out of the old one.
All bugs on older SPVs now non-existant.
ActiveSync is perfect, usb2, very fast.
No phone slowdown anymore.

He said a lot more too and pointed me to various fan sites. We spent half an hour talking and to be honest if I do get an SPV I know I'll never move to another phone again :)

Stop tempting me, I did just get a new phone myself y'know ;)

Certainly looks good though.. did he tell you how you can get it on pay as you go?

They're still "due soon" on the Orange site, but it does say due soon for both PYG and Contract

You can get these on contract now upgrade, about £200 unless you have a £25/month + payout on your tarrif, £100 cheaper if your contract is that much Expect £100-£200 more for PAYG

Well this guy was an SPV nut, I mean seriously into them and he had no idea if it really would come out on pay as you go. Although he lent more towards the fact there would be a pay as you go option, just sometime in 2004.

I've found an official developers kit for 380 quid though? ;)

I'd seriously consider a P900 if I was you. Take a look at http://www.sonyericsson.com It's also guarenteed it'll be out on PAYG on Orange sooner or later.

But having said that the SPV is a very nice piece of kit.

How can I phrase this.

Buy the dev kit!

Get your sim, whatever, but the dev kit should mean you won't need to digitally sign software you create for it

Aye, the P900 is certainly the smartphone I would be looking at above the others right now. I dont know much about it but if it can beat (what I've heard of) the P800 it must be a class act.

Developers kit looks interesting, not that I'd have much of an idea what to do with it ;)

E200 has a few bugs ( first edition of the new ms os ) and a few hardware problems that orange didn't really research. As such I'm prob going to skip it and wait for the next SPV in line.

Am seriously gutted.

This thread ( http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=97056&postdays=0&postorder=asc&sta rt=15 ) goes on about problems with the E200 and how it's put some SPV enthusiasts right off getting it.

I also just read about a rumour that the E200 may be getting recalled by Orange.

I've just got the E200 and I totally love it. The camera is a decent one for a phone and the videos it takes aren't bad quality either.

It's a bit of a heavy one like - almost retro in weight :D
