View Full Version : Longitivity of the PvP server?

Now I've been reading the boards (US ones) to see what it may be like when the game is released a couple of months in. I've also checked out the consensus.

The PvP server is down on numbers, on what seems to be due to ganking. Most people now cannot even start a quest because of level 60 gankers sitting in towns and killing everyone that enters for fun. So the stories go. (I've seen this personaly a couple of times)

Combine this with the news (well "rumors") that blizz has taken out the unhonourable kills out of the honour system. I can't see things going to well for the PvP servers much longer.

Anyone else getting second thoughts about going the PvP server in retail?

Nah, they said many a time that it will be sorted in the up-coming patch (I think), and if not, they can't let that sort of thing go on. I have faith that they will fix it and I'll still be going PvP.

Worst case, just stick with it and do it to everyone else when you hit 60!

Yeah, thats what I've been reading, and its like post upon post of griefing incidents which has been giving me second thoughts about PvP being my main.

I was pig sick of being griefed in DAOC and I can't really be fooked dealing with it again. The only way you are going to avoid being griefed when it's released is to powergame, and thats basically what I'm gunna try and do as best I can, as sad as that sounds. :|

Go PvE and wait for Battlegrounds.

The PvP servers have only ever been a short-term kludge because they released the game 6 months unfinished.

For a closer to home point of view: In the beta currently there is a lot of ganking but if you quickly learn (oh and you will) that:

- NE & Gnomes are dickheads (Orcs and Trolls for the Horde)
- Staying in Southern Kalimdor (if you're the horde)
- Pairing up
- Learning roots

Will keep you alive.

Some areas though are simply no go, example being hillsbrad. I've got a level 20 Rogue quest to do in there (I'm now level 28 ) and I simply can't do it due to the numbers of idiots ganking you, as soon as you walk in to the area (last time I made an amazing 3 paces and got ganked by a level 50 NE pally).

If they don't introduce the unhonorable killing, numbers will steadily decrease on the server. Even in the beta the population is constantly "low" on the PvP server even on peak times in europe!

But leveling is fast enough to make a main on there and if you don't like it you can move on. I've been playing about 16 days and allready level 28!

edit: Sorry if I put anyone off, but PvP 4 teh win none the less. :D Random raids are fun.

I plan on making my main character on a so called 'carebear' server.

Possibly stick an alt on a PvP server just for the different experiance.

PvP suck! and NE dont have pally's ;) They wish they did but they dont! Cos NE sux0r to. Im sticking to the PvE server if i wanna go kill the horde i will go on a raid, there is lots of them.

They removed dishonorable kills quite a while before US retail. They've said the next 2 patches will provide "reasons for people to want to be honourable", but it seems like taht addresses a different issue. Whatever, we'll see when we see.

The point is, WoW's harkly liek otehr mmorpg's in levelling speed, if you get ganked, swap characters orswap servers.

To quote the wankers on the US boards:

"Gank away! :D"
