View Full Version : Most dissapointing films in the world ever ... volume 2

ok it's actualyl volume 1 and just a play on words but what the hey :)

we have a "best ever" thread and i thought a "worst ever" was too predictable, so i'm wondering what the most dissapointing film you went to see or bought/rented was. It doesn't have to be a bad film, you can still like the film but just that it wasn't as good as you thought/hoped/hyped it to be.

I think i'd have to go for pearl harbour, coincidently it would also be my worst film but it's dissapointing because i'd seen a good few months of trailers for it showing only the battle scenes and it looked stunning, looked like a modern remake of Tora Tora Tora which is one of the best war films made, to go and watch a 3 hour film about pearl harbour that only had about 4 minutes of the actual pearl harbour attack and absolutely no background to it at all was just so dissapointing, more dissapointing than the crappy script, the wooden acting and the daft storyline.

To balance it out and stop people coming up with a worst film list, i'd add matrix reloaded/revolutions to second in the list, i enjoyed both films and have watched them several times and enjoy them, but when i read some of the ideas on film forums for what they could have done storywise and considering all the hype around the films and how good and fresh the first film was i found them both very dissapointing and ordinary in that respect despite being 'good' films.

so whats yours and why ?

Avenging Angelo

Not that bad a film in itself but reading the box in the video shop I got the impression it was an 'action thriller', turned out to be a fecking love story! http://www.burundi.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/puke.gif

Matrix 3 for me, not because the film was bad.

My fault for setting my expectations too high.

For me Ronin - promised so much and ended up a brief case farce - total let down for me.

Perfect Storm

At least Titanic sank with style.

I'm not going to put Revolutions (I love reloaded as I've said) because I believe the reason I didn't enjoy it was because I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and just wanted to skip to the end. Also I wanted Neo to be alive and well (ie not blind) by the end of it :(

If recent films i've seen i would say "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen"

As with most trailors it looked pretty fast paced and like a bit of a laugh. When i saw it there seemed to be too many gaps and holes dotted between bits.

Alien 3 is also a bit of a let down compared to 1 and 2. I'm waiting for the new boxset as it is said to have the scenes the director wanted but was not allowed to put in.

I just watched Terminator3, and dear god, that was piss poor..

I know all the reviews said it sucked, I just figured if it was even 1/3 as good as the first two it would still be cool..

I don't think I've been so annoyed by a film since Phantom Menace or Alien Resurrection..that whole "spoiling things that once were groovy" thing, y'know?

A.I. trailers promoted the film like it was a retelling of pinocchio, with a bit of Kubrick influence thrown in.
I was suckered in. the film was so boring and slow, even Kubrick would have hated it. poor mans 2001

Any Matrix film with a subtitle starting with "Re..." or any Star Wars film with a subtitle starting with "Episode..." tbh.

Quality critique

I find any film with Sean Bean in difficult to stomach, I know he seems like a decent bloke but he plays every role as Gritty Mr Yorkshire, I suppose its not his fault as he just takes whats on offer. I was tempted to put my hands over my ears when watching LOTR in case he muttered something like "Aye, theres trouble up t'Gondor, and nar mistake" and ruined the moment.

Having said that Ronin does a good job of type casting most of its actors, soft spoken hardman anyone? Call for Deniro. Suspicious Eastern European type? Get Stellan Stensgaards agent on the phone...

Probably because you only see Sean Bean as Lieutenant/Captain/Major Sharpe :E

Thought he did a good job in both Goldeneye and LOTR :)

Star Wars Episode 1 had the pod race, Episode 2 had mass jedi battles. Apart from that they were pants, but fortunatly I wasn't expecting anything from them.

some 'good' dissapointing films in the list, i'd agree with most of them except for episode2 which i actually thought was better than i expected it to be after the complete let down of ep1. I also thought alien3 was good, just wasn't very good following on from aliens .. all that effort to save newt and hicks only for them to die in the opening credits :/

I'd have to add 2001: a space odyssey on to my list, i'm a big sci-fi fan and everyone goes on about how this is the best sci-fi film ever, never watched it though, but saw it in hmv in one of their 3 for whatever offers once and bought it .. never been so bored in all my life, i only kept watching it on the off chance something would actually happen because everyone had made out it was such a great film, most dissapointing.

I reckon 2001 is just one of these films that is more nostalgia than being actually good :)

I like both the Mission: Impossible films (M:I-2 got some getting used to though ;)). But then I'm also a fan of Tom Cruise, good actor and seems to have his heart in the right place (2 hours talking to journalists? I mean that's a challenge :D)

I liked the Mission Impossible films.
For me it had to be The Avengers, Uma Thurmans breasts couldnt even save that.
