For those who want to play speccy games heres the best emu available for it: http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Bay/9932/ and you can download thousands of games here (http://tzxvault.retrogames.com/).

It looks a lot like the C64 one I use at work CCS64 (http://www.computerbrains.com/ccs64)

They're class in that you can run them in a small window which is easily hideable when the boss comes around (or in my case when one of my underlings wanders over asking for advice and you have to quickly look busy :) )

Just need a "download the lot" button for any legal tape archives

The author of the tape archive states that he only carries tapes from companies that have given their permission.

I still don't fancy running wget to mirror the site!

aren't emulators as illegal as it gets? :P

I tink it's the ROMs that are 'illegal' unless permission by original author has been given

Emulators are fine

ROM images / Tape images / disk images (e.g. software) is a gray area as some stuff has been released to the public domain, other stuff hasn't. A general rule of thumb, if its not 100% clear if something can be copied, it can't. You can however have a copy of it if you own the original game (this is a real stumbling block for mame as theres loads of game boards!)

BIOS images generally are dubious (e.g. bootloader for amiga, playstation boot rom)

so you're allowed an emulator, just not the games? :P

Your allowed the games where the publisher has given permission to distribute and use them.

And those you already own (which is more common with arcade machines like Mame)

Have you installed ZX32? Then simple find it in the start menu and run it. You can either chose full screen (better and faster) or window. Then press F10 (i think it is) to get the file menu and chose the snapshot you wish to load. You can set the emu up so it either loads like the original spectrum with all the flashy borders and noise or to load instant.

About downloading ROM's of games you already own... I think that's still illegal because you're not actually downloading YOUR version of the game, but somebody else's, even though it might be exactly the same.

A lot of the companies have given their permission for their games to be distributed. You just have to know which ones.

Talking of Spectrum emulators does anyone know where its possible to get FOON (the speccy emu for the GBA) from as the site seems to be down.
