I'd like to read up a bit on some of the history of the Middle East. Can anyone suggest any good books for this?

Beiruit to Jerusalem by Thomas Friedman is good, even if he started writing terrible pop-economics books shortly afterwards.

Couple of great books to read, tinx:

A whopping 761 pages, but a very good read...

Holy Land, Unholy War: Israelis and Palestinians by Anton La Guardia : http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0719562082/026-8985754-3430020?v=glance&n=266239&s=gateway&v=glance

Appreciate those GroovYF, also got "Six Days" by Jeremy Bowen to get some later information. I like to keep my history knowledge growing, and its a vital issue on the world stage.

Can't really find any good quality copies of Holy Land, Unholy War on amazon :(

edit :: I think its out of print? Oh well.

Thanks.
