View Full Version : Applying for a work permit to work in the UK
I have a friend who wants to come to the UK and work a couple of months here. She's from the USA, American born and holds an US passport. I'm under the impression she'll obviously need a work permit, but I'm, well she is unclear on how to go about applying for one. It'll only be a temporary thing, not permanent. I've tried google, but sifting through all the data is taking me a while, so I thought if any one here has any previous experience with such a thing and offer me a quick and easy answer? Cheers!
what kind of work?
cash in hand ok?
Well I could possibly have a job lined up for her where I'm currently working... but obviously all needs to be by the books and official.
Of course, last resort, a "cash in hand" job would suffice... But thinking to go down the proper route first :)
yeh, there can be some good cash in hand jobs (none of this slave labour crap)... but if she wants to be legit that's fair enough :)
not sure what to suggest with permits and stuff though :/
I know very little about this but I believe it has to be done through an employer. The employer will also have to pay a fee.

I believe she needs to have job lined up first, when a friend looked at the same a year ago there isn't a temporary work visa like you can get to go to Oz.
Visitors to the UK can stay on a regular travellers visa for 6 months, if she wants to work in the UK she needs to have the work permit and the correct visa. Basically its all a cunning plan to keep Americans out of the UK :naughty:
