John Carpenter films

I love John Carpenter films, they are a lot better than the normal run of the mill hollywood films. The fog is a classic film. The best part of any John Carpenter must be a scene from "They Live" where the main hero comes into a shop with a shotgun and says "I've come here to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of bubble gum." Then goes on a killing spree.

I like films where you really don't know what is going to happen at the end, that's what makes his films soooo good.

He lost the plot a bit though..still, he did crank out a fair few classics..
Dark Star
Big Trouble in Little China ( "Danger is my middle name!")
The Thing ( best. remake. ever. )
Escape from New York
They Live
Halloween
The Fog
Prince of Darkness

Escape from LA though, that sucked ass, not to mention all the terrible Halloween sequels.

I'd have to admit to quite enjoying "Vampires" though..

Ooja Nikabolokov 10-Nov-2003 00:38

If im thinking of the correect film Prince of Darkness was really freaky...

had to hide behind the cushion I think :)

Hamster 10-Nov-2003 08:59

Did he do "In the Mouth of Madness"? , the Sam Neil one?

That was pretty cool, or was that someone else?

TheBuZZard 10-Nov-2003 09:16

Yes he did. Great film too, very odd and disturbing.

Eja Cool8 10-Nov-2003 09:36

I still maintain he's past his best though 8)

danred5 10-Nov-2003 14:50

Assault on Precinct 13 great film too, and I agree with cam, his musical cues are sublime, great suspense from great music=the win

Dev 10-Nov-2003 23:53

Big Trouble In Little China was a bloody cool film, loved that one as a kid :)

Big Trouble In Little China was one of my fave films as a kid and The Thing is one of, if not my #1 favorite film.

"I can see things no other man can see............... Why are you wearing that dress?"

"Maybe we at war with Norway?"

Excellent films :D

D33 21-Nov-2003 20:51

+ music in "The Thing" is so perfect.

T3CH 21-Nov-2003 22:28

You can thank Ennio Morricone for that :D

JoeChip 21-Nov-2003 22:33

'You Gotta be Fucking Kidding!'

Best Line.

Almost makes me forget Ghosts of Mars :(

D-VoiD 22-Nov-2003 12:51

my boy is starting to watch and appreciate some of the films mentioned here :)

ahh a new generation of followers :E

Ind3h! 22-Nov-2003 17:27

Nice to see people with taste in good old skool directors :)

D33 22-Nov-2003 17:59

tbh though, I think without Kurt Russell, The Thing and Big Trouble In Little China wouldn't of been as popular.

T3CH 23-Nov-2003 02:13

ok so EfLA was pish EfNY WAS NOT. Hell even the Elvis biography he was in was good.

Hamster 23-Nov-2003 15:20

The name's Pliskin!!

T3CH 23-Nov-2003 15:35

'Call me Snake'

mind you EfLA had 'Welcome to the human race' which isa cool quote in itself.

Kippa 26-Nov-2003 02:14

I haven't seen Assault on Precinct 13, is it any good? What is it about?

danred5 26-Nov-2003 13:53

An attack on a police station, (precinct 13) basically, pretty tense stuff as a gang of youths decide to kill everyone inside the station, whilst they try to defend themselves.

And you get to see a pump action shotgun fired like a machine pistol :D

Also has the quote "He doesn't stand as well as he used to" after dropping someone

Class!

T3CH 27-Nov-2003 02:14

it was the first film to show a human elbow bend 90 degrees the wrong way as well :D

Also possibly the first american film EVER to show a child being executed.
