Remember the summer of 76?

That's all I've heard for the last 20 years. It's looking increasingly likely that this year could be on par with it, so a nice change here on in, as I'll be able to say yes when I get asked "remember the summer of 2018?" 30c+ looking likely countrywide next weekend.

[n00b]Zippy 01-Jul-2018 15:16

I was nine in '76 and thus could legitimately have a paddling pool. There isn't a breath of wind here and it's like sitting in an oven!

aird 01-Jul-2018 15:44

I was -11. So I don't :p

All I know is that it's too hot for anything.

Just left school in the May, and I was only 15, so couldn't work or sign on until the August. Signed on once, and worked ever since. Out playing footie till about 11:00pm every night, just started getting involved with early punk. Happy days! :)

cunning-stunt 01-Jul-2018 15:50

UK heatwave to last another month.

Glorious. Fucking hideous on the underground unfortunately :(

GroovYF 01-Jul-2018 16:09

I was 6 in 76 and vaguely remember the warm, sunny weather. Don’t recall how long it lasted though - may need to Google that one.
I’m dreading when it finally does break...

Eja Cool8 02-Jul-2018 13:53

I was ten, and it was yer actual endless summer. Endless bottles of fizzy juice, whatever the corner shop had cold, and yer Ma getting pi**ed off at having to hunt for you to get you indoors late on. We had a tendency to wander & explore back in those days. Ice poles or Jubilees (good age tester if you can remember them, those two). Proper lollies were a luxury that only my dad or grandparents would buy.

If my Mum wasn't working that day, we'd get on the bus down to Portobello beach, or sometimes Silverknowes. Great times. :)

Oh, and this;

It's so hot here in Lancashire it's caught fire.

burundi 02-Jul-2018 17:01

That's the main TV transmitter for the area the fire is racing towards.

If it stops Love Island being broadcast then bring it on!

The London Underground is great, there are very few cities in the world as big as London where you can get from one side to the other in 20 mins.

However, in the Summer, it needs to get in the sea. It's absolutely horrible.

Inertiaman 03-Jul-2018 16:02

UHD iplayer or gtfo.

Minty 04-Jul-2018 04:08

Only got a 1080p TV. And the itv hub is a steaming pile of rotten tits! Much better watching the broadcast stream.

funkeh 04-Jul-2018 05:04

It's probably quite easy keeping cool if you haven't got a roof! ;) :P

stepper 04-Jul-2018 11:41

Also.. “work?”

[n00b]Zippy 04-Jul-2018 11:57

Burning the sheep must be pretty hot work!

burundi 04-Jul-2018 12:58

Hey Funkeh!

35 degrees in the South of France isn't that unexpected, 32 degrees in Blackburn is like someone has opened a gateway to hell.

[n00b]Zippy 04-Jul-2018 13:03

To be fair, Blackburn is the gateway to hell at any time :)

burundi 04-Jul-2018 13:05

:) Can't disagree.
