Argentina getting excited about Falklands/Malvinas again

For me, the argument stops at the fact that the people who live there don't want to be part of Argentina. Forget about the colonial past, theres always someone else who got their first. Practically it's about who lives there now and their moral right to decide their future.

There's a new fiasco every week it seems. This President Fernandez women seems like one crazy arse bint. Maybe she's studied Thatchers 'crazy arseness'.

I see lots of reports saying that she's trying to deflect attention away from political problems at home, it seems Argentina enjoy doing this. Wasn't there a similar situation in 1982?

Does anyone know enough about the situation over there to comment?

The argentine argument really is shite anyway. It contradicts page 1, point 2 of the UN charter about respecting the "rights and self determinations of peoples". From what I hear part of the argie argument is trying to make the rest of the world not see the falkland islanders as "peoples". Yeah good luck with that...

The UK can but the Falklands are being slowly embargoed by the south american countries as Argentina persuades them to its cause, commercial flights have been affected and I think shipping from the main land to the islands is being affected.

There are many Germans in Argentina, it was a safe haven for escaping war criminals.

I heard a rumour that they have known about the potential of Falkland's oil since the 1950's (not hard, based upon the rock strat below and what the nearest South American/African/Antarctic landmasses have).

Said rumour speculates there is as much oil as there was in the North Sea before any drilling started (all sectors, including the lucrative Norwegian sector).
