Sad times, both of mine are roughly 15-16. They still act like kittens running round the house though!

Connors steam account hacked, I got a dodgy message off him through steam. As did everyone in his friends list (Sorry)

Go in to check his PC, not on it 5 mins I get a Java update, Security essentials update, malwarebytes is 232 days old need to update.
Asked him when was the last time he updated anything? I get a "Errrrrr uh oh?" queue vacant I cba expression.

Needless to say, he wont be on it again this century.

So far 16 java exploits found, 1 java trojan downloader, and thats only 10 mins in.

Firefox with noscript and adblock is pretty sturdy, the only time my machine has been infected is when the wife uses IE.

His pc is all cleaned now, 18 exploits 1 troj in total, all gone now. Just running fresh scan now, malwarebytes didnt find anything.

Browser wise hes running Chrome with AdBlock same as me, just seen that there is a chrome version of NoScript (ScriptNo) on the downloads page will give that a go aswell

Bloody Vodafone!

The 3G signal in my digs has been rubbish lately so I decided to cancel my mobile dongle for my laptop which I've had for a couple of years.

So I get on their "help" line to do this. Firstly they try to tell me that I was still in contract for it. When I challenged them on that they say I upgraded to a new 12 month contract last month!

Eventually proved that to be a pack of lies to their manager who promised to cancel it and specifically confirmed that nothing was going to be touched on my mobile or Sure Signal box.

Surprise surprise 10 minutes later my phone signal disappears and my SIM tells me it's de-authorised

So back onto them, and get no joy until I ring the leaving them number when miraculously they sort it out.

Going to calm down a bit and then send a snottogram to their complaints department - if that doesn't get a response then thanks to QT I've got the CEO's email which got remarkable results last time I used it

Its not really a rant as such coz i simply couldnt give a fuck:

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/06...tore_iran_ban/

Racial profiling now Apple? lol. what twats. its actually in the company policy too lol. its not being exported via an online sale, an iranian simply wanted to buy one. Oh how I would love to go into an Apple store, speak farsi on my iphone and buy a new macbook.

It is policy for all American technology companies, there are some nations they cannot sell to.

if a US CITIZEN who has dual nationality with Iran/Sudan/North Korea etc, wants to buy laptops etc, they haven't got a right? The employee didnt ask whether they were exporting it or anything. Its stupid as anyone could buy it on there behalf anyway.

They're a US citizen, so yes they could. I doubt it Apple making the policy, more like the US government not allowing them to trade with certain countries.

As Stepper said, with dual nationality they could buy it but if Apple think there may be a chance of it being exported to an embargoed country then they have to err on the side of caution - the government makes the rules and the companies have to obey.

I thought the US doesn't recognise dual nationality. If you're a US citizen, you're a US citizen and that's it.

You could be right there, but a company would still err on the side of caution.

Looks like I was wrong according to wikipedia, with a few exceptions:-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_...al_citizenship

But there are definitely technology embargoes against nations the US has decided are hostile.

They are just setting themselves up for disaster. Its gonna create some hate towards Apple, I already know a few that think its ridiculous.

And as I said, whats stopping someone from one of those countries, paying a kid on the street to go in and grab it for them? nothing. I could understand customs at airports having an issue with it, but its a little weird.

Over-reacting sales staff, that's all. OFAC issues definitely aren't unique to Apple.

That's the way it is - the companies don't like it but it's better than the penalties. Have a look at ITAR here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interna...ms_Regulations

The company I work for fall under this, we have a long list of countries we can't sell into, and a long list of countries / products where we have to get permission from US/UK gov to export to.

If you go to privacy settings > apps, games & websites - theres an option to turn off all apps, might do it?

Or in account settings > apps you can disable specific apps in there as well.

Hopefully one or both of those!

Amusingly, prior to this, I'd been considering a change to NatWest, as they seemed to have decent customer service. Maybe not now eh!
