Reign on me - 8/10
Good to see Sandler in a serious film.

Jeff who lives at home - 8/10
Probably a love it or hate it film. It's quite slow. Jeff tries to find meanings and links behind everything which one day make him bump into his brother who thinks his wife is having an affair.

J Edgar - 7/10
Thought it started pretty well but it was rather long despite being interesting.

Bachelor Party - 8.5/10
Good clean fun - Holds up better than I thought it would.

Lockout - Pretty boring and predictable and i dunno if it was a pre release copy that i watched but the special effects were horrible.

3/10

Woman in Black - 5/10 - was alright, not as scary as hoped. Ending was terrible, and leaves you thinking wtf just happened?

Act of Valor - 7/10 - worth a watch, quite good bit dragged out tho. Some cracking action scenes

The bike ride chase at the beginning was truly awful, so not at all thrilling as didn't look anywhere near real.

Three more plane films.

Sherlock Holmes: Game of Something - garbage
Man on a Ledge - garbage
Act of Valor - garbage on a scale you're unlikely to ever see again.

Agreed with all except Sherlock Holmes Game of Shadows which was excellent.

In my defence I had a raging headache. Really difficult to overstate just how bad Act of Valor was though.

Went to an advanced screening of a film called "Tortoise in Love" on Saturday.

It's a film entirely funded by the residents of the Oxfordshire village of Kingston Bagpuize. Written by the author Guy Browning who wanted to write a decent romantic comedy (all others being neither funny or romantic). They blew the budget on a professional camera crew and a handful of unknown actors and the rest (supporting cast, catering, accommodation, hair, make-up was provided free by the villagers). They even managed to get a free fly-past by the Red Arrows and blagged a world premier in Leicester Square. More here: http://www.tortoiseinlove.co.uk

The producer was at the screening answering questions and he's agreed to get it screened in our village hall free of charge \o/

Thoroughly enjoyed it - lots of genuinely laugh out loud moments and what a joy not to have 25 minutes of adverts beforehand! 9/10. I know it's a romantic comedy, but there's a hell of a story behind it and it really is a good film, go and give it a shot if it screens near you.

Oh, and it was at a small cinema in Oxford and I noticed they are showing "Playing the Moldovans at Tennis" by Tony Hawks, who will be there for a Q&A session afterwards. Going to see that next week

Yeah, I thought so too. Thought it was better than the previous Spidey movie attempts. Garfield seemed a good choice.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Very mediocre, I find the setting of modern day San Francisco a bit too jarring.

The talking ape at the end seemed unnecessary and shit

watched a couple of films recently.

Men In Black 3 - 6/10 Pretty gash but some funny parts

The Sitter - 3/10, Awful film. One or two funny parts, but for a comedy that really isn't impressive. Jonah Hill was his usual unfunny self.

The Entitled - 7/10 - Decent Thriller, same sort of thing has been done before but this was a decent enough version to entertain.

Margin Call - 8/10 pretty dry stuff but as accurate a depiction of high finance as I've seen. It overcooks the role of the individual a touch, but everything needs a bit of dramatic licence.

Watched The Dark Knight Rises in cinema earlier. Really enjoyed it.
Its just about a 9/10 imo, at a push.
Bane was good although the voice was slightly annoying at times. Hathaway as catwoman was immense in comparison to halle berry but average otherwise

Finally got round to catching up on some films:

Hangover 2: 3/10, just not good enough.
The Beaver: 6/10, odd film but vaguely interesting.
Battleship: 5/10, silly stuff as expected.
Lockout: 7/10, Guy Pearce ain't bad in this.
The Lorax: 6/10, My daughter liked it but I found it a bit boring.
BloodOut: 5/10, A bit slow and I found Luke Goss more amusing than convincing.
Avengers: 8/10, quite surprised by this. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it but it's an entertaining film if a bit long.
The Lost Bladesman: 4/10, plodding film but some good set scenes.
Contraband: 4/10, doesn't hold any surprises but entertaining watching things go down hill.
Red Tails: 5/10, Not a bad telling of the story with some nice effects.

Battleship - 3/10 so bad. We chose it as a lads film to watch on the basis it would be pants so we could talk through it, but it wasn't even as good as 'it was fun coz it was cheesey bad'. Plus it's the most Blue and Orange film I've seen to date. Everyone wore blue shirts, had orange skin, and even the fonts were all ornage.

I watched the new Total recall last week.

5/10

If you have seen the original then I really can't see the point in this remake.

Finally got around to seeing Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. It's good, worth seeing, but anyone familiar with the story will have guessed that it's hard to cram all of it into 2 hrs, much of the exposition is cut out, substituted with "meaningful looks".

That said, it's well-filmed, some good performances, and worth a look, 7.5/10.

However, if you want the best version, that remains the classic BBC one starring Sir Alec Guinness-or, indeed, read the book-or do both....

Battleship - 2/10
Dire script and acting! I'm a sucker for large-scale destruction special effects though. My brother had rented it via Apple TV, so grabbed it whilst it was still a available. He did tell me he wanted 2 hours of his life back just before I watched it

Get Shorty - 9/10
Forgotten how great this movie is. Was on ITV4 last night. Ranked up there with Pulp Fiction and True Romance for me.

Street Fight 9/10 what a great movie about local politics that is

Ides of March 8/10 also excellent movie about national politics. I think I might love Ryan Gosling

The Guard 7/10 pretty good cultural clash cop movie

American Reunion 2/10 abysmal, with the dad being the only redeeming feature

The Town - caught this on anytime the other day, really good film tbh. Only thing I could fault it on is length, 2hr film and it does drag in parts. Other than that great watch 8/10

OK here's the thing... this thread is in itself not only counter-productive but very, very lazy.

Each film should have it's own thread for discussion. Cramming them all in here disrupts the flow of conversation about a film and for that reason discourages discussion.

I propose this thread is locked. It can still be accessed and read for reference purposes, but from then on keep the forum running the way it always was before this thread popped up, and indeed has been concurrently with this thread's existence.

No disrespect is meant towards the OP or subsequent posters in this thread... I just think that there could be more activity and interest in this forum were each film given it's own space to breathe.
