Google Nexus 7

Anyone got it? If so, what are your thoughts?

Reviews look really good and at that price it's seemingly a steal, but even when it's so cheap I'm still sufficiently northern to ask for others' opinions before splurging 200 notes.

Google Now is probably the best reason to have the latest OS - but wifi only cripples the usefulness of that.

Small good. No SD bad. Uplift in price from 8gb to 16gb is quite a chunk of the total.

Free 15 quid voucher for play store is nice either way alongside some straight up free content which is mostly shit.

my take is that if this thing is sitting at home 24/7 then it's awesome. If it's going out and about with you then you may want to switch to a device (and indeed double the price) that has a sim. I'm looking to upgrade my otherwise fucking wonderful Prime to the new 3g model for that reason.

I'm waiting for the 16GB version, Apparently some build issues with the first batch of 8GB ones due to lose screens. Demand has been overwhelming for the 16GB ones, so theyve stopped pre-orders at the moment. They didn't foresee the demand for the 16GB oustripping the 8GB ones. They really thought Google fans would be soo into the 'Cloud' they didn't care about hard storage.

Honestly that's schoolboy, People don't even buy 8GB phones anymore, I would rather the choices were 16Gb and 32Gb than 8 & 16.

Use the built in tethering if you have an android phone, works a treat!

Yeah to a point if you can rely on a recharge over your day. Canes the fuck out of even a hicap phone battery though.

Yeah the lack of 3G coverage is the one thing that puts me off; however much I rarely used the 3G on my iPad it was always worth having it for the times I did use it. However, I can always use 3G on my iPhone and it's so cheap I may just accept WiFi only!

Check the screen, make sure you didn't get one of the early builds. Apparently it's an easy fix, just tighten up the screws on the screen assembly.

Incidentally the official optional cover isn't very impressive, hopefully better ones will be coming soon

Maybe they're just taking the low road to push the cloud mentality a bit. There's no denying they're pretty much giving the things away at 200 quid.

yes, so for me buying a 16GB one was a no brainer, other than I'd thought I'd wait to see what teething problems there were, and as no 7" tablet had set the world alight, I didn't expect this level of general demand either, but I would have planned for more for the 16GB version based on pricing and lack of SD slot.

Google Currents is lovely for some sofa surfing. I commonly use the likes of XBMC, MX Player, Facebook, stock browser, Wifi Analyzer, skype, google maps, gmail, touchdown mail, polaris office.

Games - can't remember which are free or not but Radiant Defense, Machinima, Rebuild, Robotek, GTA3, Max payne, Greed Corp, Fieldrunners HD, etc etc. Looking forward to fieldrunners 2 once it's out on the droid.

Must confess I've found less use for alt launchers on the tablet form than the phone as there's not quite the same need to maximise the space.

Yeah indeed - I still use go ex on the galaxy but ICS with asus widgets is quite fine on it's tod! Jellybean looks even smoother and should drop soon for the prime.

To be fair I haven't seen ICS on the 7 so it might be very nice

Had to cancel my order as, despite being scheduled for delivery on Wednesday last week, nothing arrived, and im flying out of the country today. Then I realised Tesco Direct use Yodel, and therein lay the cause. Avoid like the plague.

Have ICS on my Nexus S and it has made whopping different to the performance. With ICS i was running a custom rom and overclocked to 1.2ghz. Everything stock on Jellybean is much smoother. It's enough of a difference to see me through until the next Nexus phone comes out.

Cuurents Pre installed, and I agree already. Couch surfing whilst typing this and watching Olympics. Does exactly what I wanted already. Nice and quick, solidly built, well worth £199.
