Faulty TV

So I've got a faulty TV I want to fix for the kitchen, the problem is it has standby mode lit up then it looks as though it attempts to turn on (stand by light flickers) but wont turn on. Check all the hardware side of it and everything 'looks' fine capacitors are all in tact. So I take the power lead out of the main board and leave it a bit then stick it back in the tele will fire up as new after that it clears the problem for a day or two then comes back. Im looking around on the net for a similar fault and fix but not sure as of yet

A new PSU board is 30quid and would rather know it will work or at least be fairly sure before I get a replacement

Anyone had any similar faults etc?

when you say the caps are intact, are they all flat on top or are any bulging? if so, swop them out and that should do it. leaving it to discharge with no power lead in and then it works indicates usually a cap issue

everytime that occurs with a work pc, those are the symptoms, power discharge for 30mins usually temp fixes it and caps always end up being the issue. normally they appear to have bulged so surprised that's not the case, perhaps they've failed internally and just haven't swollen. Are there many, do you have a soldering iron etc? could be worth doing for the cost/effort but if a new board is only £30 i'd stick one in instead if it comes in close cost wise, just easier and less chance of screwing it up as soldering can be a bitch

actually, ive found the problem it is the caps

Theres a big 9v on the board and its leaked all fucking over, so much so that I thought it was a glue stuff to hold parts in fucking place LOL!

Think Ill give the soldering route a go first then and if i burst it in to flames ill just buy a refurbished board

Just make sure you put the new one in the same way round - they really go bang if you reverse them....
