Blood Song by Anthony Ryan.
A fantasy series self published for the kindle though this is the only one released so far (signed up by a publisher for future releases though) and a bargain for £1.91. Happened to stumble on it and was curious since it had so many 5 star reviews on amazon/goodreads Half way through and it's a very enjoyable book, similar to Paul Hoffman/maybe rothfuss and shows huge potential i think. |

Just started "A Storm Of Swords". Reading the books really does demonstrate how much content they just have to skip for the TV program.
After this one, I think I might give fantasy a rest and start on some Sci-Fi. Any recommendations? Nothing too Star-Trekky/Warsy please ![]()

Intervention by Julian May, for some sci-fi/fantasy crossover. It's not awesome, but the 4 book series that it is kind of an intro to IS awesome. Technically the 4 books were released first, but they come after Intervention.

Stuff I've read over the past year or two that I recommend Leviathan Wakes - James RA Corey - fantastic sci-fi. Solar System spanning, bit of noir thrown in , big ideas. Recommend! Heavens Shadow by David Goyer and Michael Cassutt - Old school sci-fi type , about a landing on a celestial object that passes close to earth and things get interesting. Lost Fleet - Jack Campbell - Does what it says in the tin, Fleet of warships stuck in enemy territory tries to fight its way home. Good stuff. Not new but great Gridlinked - Neal Asher Altered Carbon - Richard Morgan Singularity Sky - Charlie Stross Stealing Light - Gary Gibson A lot of the WH40k novels are highly readable. Anything by Dan Abnett is usually good, the Gaunts Ghosts series. The Horus Heresy series is good. Walter Jon Williams, Alastair Reynolds, Paul Hamilton amongst others also good!

About to take a break from scifi after getting up to speed with primordium and glasslands in the run up to halo 4 by diving into book 1 of disc world. Heard people saying they were good and whilst I'm not really a fantasy fan I am willing to give it a bash in the hope it's good!

Warhammer 40k is a cracking shout. Ive always loved the lore behind that universe, but I had no idea there were novels. I used to enjoy the Alien Vs Predator books, but the films kinda ruined my enthusiasm for them. Will have a look into all the other books recommended as well. Ta

The only thing I would say about lost fleet is the relationship stuff is really cringeworthy at times. The shooting is good however.
Retribution falls is worth a read (I'm sure others have said this too) and is a bit of a fantasy and scifi mesh.

Also agreed Retribution Falls is good as well. Nice mash up of genres with a bit of ( good ) steampunk thrown in

It seems that the omnibus editions aren't available as ebooks yet, only the individual books. This is annoying as Eisenhorn is only available in omnibus form
You need to read that before Ravenor, as they follow on, so don't get Ravenor yet. I'd get the Night Lord books Soul Hunter, Blood Reaver and Void Stalker for starters, then go from there.

Onto book 3 (Xenocide) of Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. First 2 books were great, hope the next 6 are up to their standards!

A Feast For Crows is one book, but A Storm Of Swords is 2. But yeah, Ive purchased the version thats both books in one, so thats not an issue. I am going to give them a break after this one though.

Storm of Swords is only 2 books in paperback, it is actually one book. Feast for Crows and Dance with Dragons were supposed to be one book but were split because it got way too big.

I'm about a quarter into the last Black Company collection.
They really have been good. Chronicles of the Black Company - The Black Company, Shadows Linger & The White Rose The Books of the South - Shadow Games, Dreams of Steel & The Silver Spike The Return of the Black Company - Bleak Seasons & She is the Darkness The Many Deaths of the Black Company - Water Sleeps & Soldiers Live. So I'm about half way into Water Sleeps. Really have enjoyed the series, military based fantasy with some great characters. Really enjoyed the style Glen Cook's written them in. Recommend!

Im reading the Kindle edition and it can be in 2 parts. Had to pay a tenner for the entire book, which felt like a bit of a rip off, but whatever. Im burning through it as well. Only started a couple of days ago and Im already 25% of the way through the book. Turns out its even better when you dont know whats going to happen!

I'm on a feast for crows and enjoying it, so many twists and just blunt ends (for characters).
Thinking I should change to something else for a while as I've read them all back to back now and its getting a bit OTT |

This week, I have mostly been reading "Empire of the clouds: when Britain's aircraft ruled the world", by James Hamilton-Paterson, s'all about the post-war technology boom in our aircraft industry, cut off at the legs by horrendous Govt. decisions, bad management, and a general feeling that we were tops and would remain so, no matter what "Johnny Foreigner" got up to....
