Meant to say. Got the cheap ebuyer own brand ones. Got a duff plug in the first ones but second lot have been seemless. They say 200mbps on the box and give 160-170 (currently 168 ). Very impressed. Also when I bought mine they gave me a free powerline wifi extender. Which was nice.

Sorry for the thread resurrection, but does anyone know if I can mix and match homeplugs? I bought a couple of these a few years ago and they work fine but the big limitation is the lack of a pass-through socket, so you essentially lose a wall outlet when you use one. I'm trying to run a network (from the existing homeplug that connects my router to the ring main) into a room that only has one available socket, so I really need to buy another make/model that will allow me to plug an extension cable into the homeplug. Any ideas if I'd be wasting my money by randomly buying one that seemingly meets my needs?

Ta.

Manufacturers say you cant, but I've seen people say they have ok. I think it depends what LAN over power standard they work to, but I don't know how you check that.

Try plugging the home network connector into an extension block instead of directly into the wall socket, even though the manufacturers generally say not to do it. It didn't make any difference to the performance on mine (Devolo)...

You should be able to, they are all of the same "Homeplug" ratified standard.

Be aware of electromagnetic interference when placing these things (as with anything electrical for that matter). I have mine in the living room area, but the only place I can put my large guitar amp is right in front of it (it's a fairly big one). When the amp is there or not there for any length of time, all is well - but move it slightly and the Powerlines get all confused and stop needing a reboot to resume service.

I know it's got FA to do with what you're currently on about, but it's something to be aware of..

yeah - from what i've read the devolo range seem to have a high cost but people that have bought them have been more than happy with them.

In other news - "infractions" is my new word of the day. Excellent

Had a pair of cheap homeplugs which worked fine until we had a power outage after which they got frazzled by the surge when it restored. Got the same units as replacements and I'm just not getting the throughput that I used to - I use it for streaming DVDs from a server to a media player and the player is constantly buffering.

Fairly simple set-up: server > router > homeplug > homeplug > media player. Server is on the same floor as the media player if that makes any difference. Any ideas about finding the bottleneck?

Short of running some Cat-5 between router and media player. No.

Also, try plugging into different outlets/different circuits (if different upstairs/downstairs) - did the surge blow any fuses?

We don't have fuses, just trip switches and I don't think anything tripped.

I've got the same problem with my front room media player. NAS is in back room, Dune Smart D1 in there plays all my DVD rips and HD mkv's fine.

Bought Dune TV101 for front room, HD material stutters. All Homeplugs are Devolo and their software reports 40 - 76mbit/sec conection between the NAS and the Homeplug the TV101 is plugged into, which should be enough. When I run the read test on a NAS file from the TV101 its only reporting a 1.4 MB/s read speed, compared to the 4MB/s from the other Media player.

At a loss what to do.

I don't have it turned on - if the h4x0rs want to peruse selection of British comedies and dire movies then they are welcome.

Tried plugging the DuneTV101 and the NAS into a switch and seeing how it plays then? If OK, then its your Devlo's (or where they are located on the ring) - if not, then its a software issue...

If you have proved, or are pretty sure that the underlying hardware is ok, then the only thing left is a software issue.

I've got a netgear streamer hooked up to the TV and all of a sudden it started being a right shit - nothing played, then it couldn't even find the films on the server. All other devices on the network could find the server OK and play content - just the sodding netgear unit. I finally sussed it - and it wasn't the netgear unit, it was the server after all. Bonjour had gone tits up so had to reinstall - after this everything worked fine.

Same boat here now. Decided to move the one from the PC in to the living room so we could get Anytime+ but going back to wireless on the pc means gaming woes so i brought a random homeplug off amazon but for the life of me cannot get it to connect. Any ideas?

HomePlug is a defined standard, so they should all be able to connect together. I'd suggest removing the passwords from them first.

reset them all and also check that they are all on the same ringmain
how old is the house?

also why can't you plug them into an extension cord?
as far as I was aware, this was possible as long as you don't get a multi-adaptor with surge protection built in.

Done suggestions, still nothing. Even when i just have the new one connected to the router, the router isn't showing it connected but the ethernet light is blinking which means its receiving the connection.

Without sounding too thick, ethernet bridge is the same as a homeplug, just different names like "I vacuum" "I hoover"?
