PPI claim back companies

Anyone use them? - me and er in doors are thinking of having a bash at this - recommendations?

Don't use the companies just do the paper work yourself. There is a thread on moneysavingexpert explaining exactly what to do.

Not had anything with PPI so nothing to claim back myself. I do believe chef would be a good person to talk to about it though.

Yeah this is the problem though - me and missus had various mortgages (and she had a few cards) but we are talking some time ago and can't remember any major details (certainly can't remember exact dates, or if the PPI was offered). This is why going the DIY route we think might not be best way

You can request that information from your bank about what loans you've had etc. I had one loan but I had taken it out online, cannot remember if the box was auto ticked or not so haven't bothered myself. Chef pointed me to that particular thread (I think) after he had followed it.

The claims companies take a huge wedge for doing pretty much everything you could do yourself.

Yep, all they will do is ask you for the info that you don't know anyway. It's a case of going through old paperwork till you find what you need then fill the form in.

The claims companies will take about 30% and do nothing that you couldn't do yourself.

Yeah i'm rapidly coming to the same conclusion. Problem is, we don't have half of the information and and far chunk of it is past the 6 year period.

you don't neccesarily need the documentation to make the claim they should look into it for you regardless.

I'm putting in my own claim soon, waiting for my application documents from capital one before i decide on what my own claim will be hinged on, can't remember whether i got the option on PPI or not.

Just send them a letter asking for the documentation to your application. if they can't provide that documentation then they will have no evidence to refute what you're claiming

I work for Lloyds and i'm what we call a case reviewer.
Basically i look at the complaints and decide if we should pay out or not.
From my knowledge and experience, you are much much better off doing it yourself and the Complaint Management Companies have a super bad rep within the banks and just send us some random templates of complaints anyway. Nothing specific to your situation.

I did mine myself, took 20 minutes or so and I got paid out 7 weeks later! Handy if you have the account numbers and ppi reference numbers.... Barclays changed my ppi ref halfway though the loan period for "some" reason but luckily I had both!

I keep everything so had all my details to hand even though the loan was started in 2001. One phonecall to explain why i thought i was missold. One questionairre through the post to fill in. Wait 8 weeks, £8.250 richer. If you wanna throw away 30% for a company to fill in a questionairre for you then go right ahead.

I claimed from Egg using the moneysavingexpert form, so easy, no point letting the claim companies do it.

I just sent in the form, got a letter back and a cheque.

My wife has seen her workload at the bank quadruple because of scumbag cunts claiming they were mis-sold PPI when in fact they knew exactly what they were getting into.

I went to a bank to open an account last year and they tried to sell me all sorts of accounts i didn't want including the paid for accounts. I'd like to stress again, in most cases it's the banks who have to prove you wrong not the other way round. so you don't necessarily need the documentation. Also the banks are supposedly writing out to everyone eventually if they had PPI on accounts to let them know. Probably so they don't have to keep setting aside loads of cash.

I should point out that I have no problem with people claiming back any cash that they have paid out because some sales-driven fuckwad at a bank fancied pimping his bonus (and there's no shortage of those). My wife is a PB, and regularly talks people out of things if they won't benefit from it. She has a conscience, but don't make the mistake of thinking that's all that rare in banking.

It is a bit of a joke that you can basically claim it back whether you were mis sold it or not now. Don't think we are even bothering to look into cases anymore, just write out the cheques.

Just try and do it yourself and don't go with the companies.... they are worse than the banks that mis-sold the PPI in the first place. Some fuckers keep phoning me saying I can claim back my PPI and when I explained I didn't have any PPI the guy on the phone started going on about how I did have PPI, I just didn't know what it was.. He just hung up on me when I explained that I did know what it was because I worked for a bank and secondly he was phoning me on my work number.

Well its just disproportionate for them to investigate each one. Also even if an individual hasn't been missold I have no problem with them reclaiming; the PPI policies sold were so disgustingly overpriced for the pretty poor benefit they provided that they - the insurers and the banks - should suffer for selling them in the first place.

Even a small amount of effort, research and taking responsibility will yield a far better result than using any of the claims management companies.

Course if youre the type to do that you probably didn't have PPI.

Its not just about misselling, theres an onus on authorised financial institutions to ensure that products they sell are targeted at a specific audience, fit for that purpose and not misleading. PPI pretty much failed on all fronts so its pretty fair that if you have it you should be refunded regardless of selling tactic.
