I devoured A Clash of Kings on holiday and started a Storm of Swords during the last couple of days, I'm now buying a Kindle so I can read it better as I've been reading it on my HTC desire and my eyes are bloodshot.

I've had to have a pause about halfway after certain events, not afraid to kill off characters is he!

Finished The Many Deaths of the Black Company.

Top notch series.

Also started and finished ( only took 3 or 4 days ) the latest Lost Fleet - good shooty space action.

Now onto Calibans War, book two of The Expanse. Picks up where the first book finished.

Just Finished Legion of the Damned, a 40k battle book. Pretty well done given they couldn't use the legion as the main characters. They preserved the mystery of them really well, and the stylistic change whenever one of them appeared was nicely done. Normal marines = grimdark style, Legion of the damned = something out of a Edgar Allen Poe story.

Caliban's War was fantastic. Very good sci-fi. Can't wait for the next one.

Also read The Skinner - Neal Asher. I had started that many posts ago , but got distracted after a few pages for something else. As always Ashers stuff is visceral , imaginative and slightly fucked up. I think the Polity and some of it's goddam thats weird corners like Spatterjay is one of my favourite sci-fi settings. From the future tech to the characters and general plot lines, great.

Onto The Voyage of Sable Keech now. about 250 pages in. Loving it \o/

Im amazed you managed to get that far in. 5 chapters is all I managed before I decided it was going into the "archived" section of my Kindle.

Am on holiday in Malta so it was ok for a poolside read - probably why I'm looking at it more favourably than I would normally.

Battle Royale meets the Running Man (book version) IMHO

This week, I have mostly been reading; "Battle of the Bulge: Britain's untold story", by Charles Whiting (served in the battle, 52nd Divisional Recon Regt.).

Very interesting, and annoying as it really shows up how much Britain's critical role was airbrushed out of history by the Yanks, highly recommended..

Got 50 pages left to go. Bit slower than his usual stuff, but decent plotting.

Just finished 2

Among Thieves by Douglas Hulick
Above average and overall an enjoyable read with a Gentlemen Bastards kind of feel to it. Its a debut novel but i like some of the concepts and hints to backstory that he has laid the groundwork for.

Prince of Thorns by Mark Lawrence.
As with the above it was pretty good, maybe not quite at good as the reviews i have read but still very decent.

Between the 2 i'd give Hulick the edge i think.

Last couple of months I have read the whole Sharpe series of books followed by the Dresden Files series of books. Both series quite enjoyable. Just finished the later Jack Reacher book, not too bad but all the while reading it I couldn't get out of my head how badly Tom Cruise fits the character...

Fancy a Sci-Fi series next...

On that note I'm re-reading Ender's Game and will probably read Ender's Shadow again as well having just found out that Orson Scott Card is making the movie. Excellent cast on the face of it.

Finished The Voyage of the Sable Keech , Orbus , Prador Moon, Hilldiggers and now onto The Technician all by Neal Asher.

He's definitely one of my favourite Sci-Fi authors. The universe and setting of the Polity , with all it's strange creatures , tech and characters is fantastic.

Currently reading The Horus Heresy as recommended above. I honestly expected it to just be a bit of fan service rather than a serious novel, but I have to say that its absolutely superb. Has me totally hooked!

Finished The Technician and the short story collection The Gabble. The Technician was great and The Gabble has some excellent wee stories and characters in it.

The Gabbleduck is quite possibly one of my favourite alien critters of all time.

Read and finished The Straight Razor Cure by Daniel Polansky , fantasy novel, almost noirish . A little bit cliched in the grizzled main character . but the book is strong enough and interesting enough to use it very well. If you like Joe Abercrombie / Brent Weeks or even Jim Butchers Dresden you should like this.

Onto the next one now - Tomorrow the Killing.

Why'd you open your bong hole you smelly hippy? You'd sacrifice a beautiful woman to save a moderately attractive monkey?
