Have to say I'm not entirely sure about splitting it into three, seems a bit overkill. Isn't The Hobbit shorter than any of the three LOTR books?

Yes it is. I'm dubious myself, but will wait and see. If they use stuff from the appendices of LOTR which discussed stuff in The Hobbit and flesh out the White Council stuff, Saruman being duplicitous , Gandalf in Dol Guldur , the White Council against Dol Guldur I can see enough for 2 1/2 films ...

Maybe the fight against Smaug and the Five Armies are just AWESOME and take up big big chunks of time...

thorin oakenshield looks too elfy in his features in that trailer and there is too much adrian brody'ness to a few of the others also, pfft. whoever was selling the fake noses was on a right winner with this film

So it looks like the appendices are bulking out each stage of the movie
