iPhone 5

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/07..._release_date/

Probably won't get one straight away as I have a 4s. I'll probably wait for the 5s or whatever.

I'm still on the 3gs and see little reason to upgrade so far? I use a chunky rubber cover so the size (This isn't sounding how I intended) isn't important.

iPhones are basically:

Buy one, skip one, buy one, skip one (wherever you start)

I have an iPhone 4 so may upgrade in line with the above formula, but it totally depends on whether the differences are worth it - Siri, for instance, is fvking shite.

My 3GS is certainly showing it's age. It's pretty solid though, using it without a case and having survived being dropped on the floor at waist height three times. I'll jump for the 5 due to the fact that it lacks the ummph for a lot of the new games that are being released

I really can't make my mind up if I enjoy the flexibility of tatting on android and things occasionally not working as planned ... or having an iphone and being totally restricted.

I've probably spent about the same in both camps now!

I won't be going to 5, maybe 5s but definantly 6

Is the iPhone 5 supposed to have an aluminium "unibody" case like the MacBook and the iPad? I've seen some supposedly leaked photos which suggested this maybe the case... Looked sweet!

Apple spot the blindingly obvious.

Another vote for the form of the 3gs btw. Still prefer it to the 4. Just needs retina and all the other shit. Perhaps they'll release a 10y anniversary model..

On what basis? The iPhone has done amazingly well and will continue to do so.

The gap between a new iPhone on release and its competitors has been growing smaller and smaller since the iPhone 3. The iPhone 5 should have come out in February if it were to maintain that gap let alone the bigger one of its predecessor as it would have had 2 months over the HTC One X and 5 months over the Samsung Galaxy S3.

The price you can have the GS3 at now means this new iPhone will have to come out at its cheapest ever price of all iPhone launches if its to match post launch sales of past.

Factor in the consumer market in that the only people who will buy this phone are those who have stuck with Apple, a figure much less than when the last iPhone came out as many jumped ship to an Android device. I just can't see this beating let alone match previous iPhone launches.

Interesting rant... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-19557497

In other news, the black looks really really slick, and nice to see they've returned back to the aluminum back ala the original iPhone. The hardware spec isn't going to push any boundaries or beat what's out there already in the market. However, you have to hand it to them, the iPhone + Apple is still the best totally integrated, easy peasy system out there.

The new iPod Nano's are pretty nice and good to see the iPod touches in various colours. I'm guessing the latter is going to soon phase out the iPod Classic, if it hasn't already.

Thankfully the Classic is still on sale... there's a market for it. I think I'm one of many who like the ability to carry their full music collection around with them when they want. Nothing else (Apple-wise) touches the Classic in the capacity front.

Think I'll pass on the iPhone 5, I've got a 4S and I just don't think it's a big enough upgrade. the 4S with iOS 6 will be just fine.
The new Nano looks sweet I'll say, by far the best of all the generations so far.
iPhone starting at £529 (for the 16GB I assume, as I don't think there'll be a 8GB model).

If I had a 4S I certainly wouldn't bother, but as my 3GS is hitting it's retirement age, I will. To be honest I don't see IOS6 running well on the 3GS at all, it chokes now and then on IOS5.

The lightning connector is a bit of a joke as I thought Apple were forced to incorporate the micro USB standard a while back... ?

Oh and...

http://www.apple.com/uk/iphone/compare-iphones/

It takes a nano sim, so potentially bad news for GiffGaff users if they don't adopt it.

Providers will probably be panic buying nano sims if they weren't savvy enough to expect apple to switch sim cards again. Doubt it'll be long before GiffGaff and the big players have them in stock

Will iOS6 be supported on the 3gs or will they try to kill off that hardware? Know people still use the 3g but you can't run a current version of iOS. Am considering upgrading my 4 to a 5, will see what contract prices are like first

TDO, pretty certain the slides mentioned the 3GS is suitable for iOS6.

blurr, as for the micro-USB... you could always get this: http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MD...ro-usb-adapter
(yeah, I know, getting shafted and having to spend a little more cash!)

Well the big players such as Vodafone, O2 and Orange already put their order in back in July for nano sims in preparation of today's announcement.

GiffGaff have waited until today for an announcement before making a decision.

IOS6 will be compatible with the 3GS, whether it runs adequately or not is another issue!

Do GiffGaff have their own branded sims? Some SP's just order from the network and have a few thousand sims on the shelf the next day instead of having to get any printed.

Surprised they're still supporting the 3gs!

Yeah they have their own branded sims. It took them quite a long time to finally offer micro sim cards.
