It's been 10 years
Since 1942 was released. So it's been not much off that since I met half you bastards!
https://www.facebook.com/battlefield...ter=3&ustart=1 Facebook page where people are posting their favourite moment. Large chunk of them are Desert Combat related which is quite telling. Personally it would be a toss up between guiding scuds from inertia across half of El Al before sniping the pilot of the Apache who came hunting for me, any of Neds epic cluster TKs and catching that poor sod in the water and watching inertia roll a scud up and almost point blank shoot him with it. Honourable mention to epic lovebus sessions and to Faithless for bullseying me in my F16 on gazala whilst using the Arty. To this day still my top of the pile "what the fuck was that? "Moment.

Nailing you and Nersh with a scud from across El-Al for me, as well as the numerous lovebus rides on Gazala

You've been overcome with "blind Moderationitis!".
I got that on the old Red Hot Chili Peppers forum a few times. It resulted in "threats of legal action to preserve their free speech" from one or two of our Yank posters ![]()

I'm still waiting for someone to make a BF game as good as 1942.

Without doubt the best part of 42 wasn't specific vehicles or events, it was waking up on Sunday morning with a slamming hangover and having a game to cane all day without getting bored. There's been precious little that's achieved that since.
Or maybe I've got boring. Either way I still miss the completely open maps. Gazala and el al were large enough to contain several separate battles and thousands of exchanges per game. Some of the best rounds were spent just camping a remote base and holding off wave after wave of tank, air and infantry with a half decent class balance. Helicopters - obviously they were a total bodge given the limitations of the engine but resulted in some of the most skillful and entertaining vehicles in gaming over the last decade. Each and every iteration of air vehicles in BF games since have provided further and further disappointment.

Oh I just remembered the endless comedy after we figured out how to disable parachutes server side on urban maps. Rushing choppers and bailing out? Not so fast there Johnny Random!

It's kinda sad that even if they did a remake in Frostbite 2 (or some new spangly engine) it just wouldn't be as good as '42 knowing that they'd never attempt something of that scale again and would most certainly miss out the naval combat I loved so dearly.

I only ever played the demo of 1942, and offline at that-it was still a great laugh, probably still would be now

Ah yeah Server Side Mods. That was where some absolute genius servers and modes came from. Lost Village gave me my best ever RPG kill. 5 people for one RPG who all stayed in the heli thanks to no chutes.

I think chutes should be a perk, either on the soldier tree or vehicle tree. I'm coming round to the idea that aircraft destroys should count as kills for unlocks, as in real life Air to Air engagements you kill the machine, and not the man piloting it.

It was indeed
I was at the factory and it was you, Ned, Jamie/faithless and a couple others. You were just doing one of those terrifying minigun runs on the flags. I'm sure we had the server set so that stingers were a pickup but I remember doing a " just about.......there " and saw the RPG arc up and just kiss the nose of the blackhawk. I'm sure I put a screeny in the screenies thread. I will try and dig it out when I get home.

My favorite moment had to be when I stole a Black Hawk on lost village, spent the rest of the map with a mate hovering wiping everything out that moved in the base using the mini gun.
The choppers were perfect on that game, once you learnt how to control the Apache you could spin 360 degrees around a tank in a circle of death with a barrage of rockets. I've never felt so much control as that and although the choppers are good now, they're still not the same.

Jim I don't and have never thought you were a bellend. There is a wide wide gulf between taking of piss and dislike.

Back on track...
Best BF moment for me was my Mum getting seriously pissed off because we were all shouting "RED DAWG, RED DAWG, CASUALTY COUNT IS HIGH!" very loudly at 2am. She then subsequently referred to anything remotely game related as "Playing with your stupid friends" |

Sooo many moments of gaming gold, primarily though the banter on comms was what made it for me.
