The concern is always going to be that theyre going to try and "add" elements to the gameplay. It wasnt their game originally, so the temptation will always be there to try and make the game their own. Microprose themselves tried to add elements to the game in TFTD and look at how that turned out. A load of old arse.

Thats what I like about the xenonauts project. They obviously couldnt use the Xcom name, so theyve changed the setting to the cold war era, changed the weapons, the vehicles etc. but the game itself remains fundamentally the same. Just more polished

I reckon their basic design philosophy will probably ensure that theres no huge departures from the base gameplay elements, it obviously isnt going to be as strict a copy as xenonauts though

On a slightly very related note jagged alliance back in action is availible for preorder on steam - remake of jagged alliance 2 which probably takes number 2 in the tactical turn based squad combat games all time list! Hmmm,

I'm a bit dissapointed that there is no talk of real time combat. In my opinion Apocalypse was the strongest of the Xcom games and the real time combat was part of that.

RPS' blogs worked me into a frenzy. They've had a preview copy for some time and they're basically playing it 24hours a day. I've pre-ordered it. Too many good games, arrrrrghhhh!

But yeah Im not sure that could have been a much more favourable viewpoint if the developers had hired Carmen Electra to suck him off whilst he played.

Its made me pre-purchase based on that preview alone. Go pre-purchase on Steam so we can all get a free copy of Civ 5!

I am spending entirely too much on games atm. Thankfully I dont have to pay for Football Manager this year as theyve included pay-to-win features, so Im making a principled stance against it.

Demo now available on Steam. Just had a go and whilst it doesnt feel a lot like the original, it does feel somewhat familiar and its certainly a lot of fun

Aye, there's uproar from all quarters regarding the demo. It hasn't phased me at all, the demo is the tutorial and a short demonstration mission. Idiots are waving their arms about and planning firebomb attacks on Firaxis HQ already.

I quite enjoyed it, the demo was short but entertained me. Been watching one or two gameplay vids on youtube..so many idiots not using cover then bitching becuase they got killed.

I tried the orginal after the demo last night, my first soldier stepped of the plane and got his blown off....so many fucking buttons!!!

Well it isnt a strict remake, which is what a lot of morons would have been expecting. Unfortunately, consoles have turned a large portion of the gamer audience into retards and they never would have put up with the old Geoscape or micromanagement of your units in the battlescape.

As far as Im concerned, its a decent enough "re-imagining"

Played through the demo mission without losing a single soldier. Felt very proud of myself
