Weeds!

Not the kind ya smoke.

I'm talking lawn infesting fuckers (dandelions etc).

Anyone got any advice on the best stuff to get shut of them? - normal weed and feed or is there a chemical of win that I don't know about yet?

Depends what you want to kill. For nettles and thistles (and other broad-leaved plants), use 'Impetus', and if you want to absolutely kill everything, use 'Glyfos'. You will need some kind of mist sprayer, don't do it on a windy day, will also need 24 hours of dry weather, keep pets away. Also worth investing in a respirator and some goggles. When mixing, use as a 4% solution, wash your measuring jug out shitloads after use (in fact best use an old one and don't use it for anything else, unless it's glass). A handy tip is to put a squirt of washing up liquid in with it, it will help it stick to the leaves to make it more efficient.

Hope this helps

Depends on the weeds.

Is it the odd weed around the garden, that just need a dose of "Round Up" (Which is awesome)

or

Is it that the lawn is totally overrun with weeds? In which case, dose the whole lawn with weedkiller, let it all die off ... remove, rake it over and start again.

^^ Round-up is glyphospate. I think Glyfos is cheeaper than Round-up, due to the 'name'. Might be wrong though.

Aye I think you're right. My sisters bloke is a farmer and gave me a huge barrel of the stuff ... but it seemed far stronger than the off-the-shelf version.

Cut off their heads before they set seed and they'll naturally die back in numbers. Pointless using chemicals for them to resow over the next X amount of months via the wind. Mowing every 7 days will weaken the roots as they won't get enough carbohydrates to feed on. Will take time though before you notice any decrease ie at least 12 months.

I pay a Lawnmaster guy to weed and feed my lawn every 3 months. I find it worth it. No weeds at all and he spots things like diseases and clears out moss etc. For my reasonably sized lawn he charges £38 a visit (more if he is scarifying etc.).

Called the Weed Wand, about £19- £25, but you can get Propane bottle ones for about £80.

Bit of diy with the weed wand, you could have a good TF2 Pyro flame thrower.

Don't trust those products that claim to kill weeds in 24 hours, they merely colour them brown so they look like they are dying!

Clearly not tried the farmers version of RoundUp then? Not the watered down off the shelf stuff.

That flame thrower gas thing is a pile of wank for pyromaniac gardeners who want to compare penis sizes with their neighbours.

Roundup was always the favourite in my garden centre days. Kill the root kill the weed and all that.

He won't have done. The stuff we use, Glyfos (presuming other brands of similar strength), you need to go on a special herbicide handling course so that you can buy it. Something I need to organise actually, as we're running out.

You DO use a breathing mask and gloves to spray it don't you?

Erm that would be a negative !!!

Told bro-in-law that I needed to get rid of some weeds. He gave me container with some "stuff" in there and said "That's the stuff we use at work, it's the end of the container, but should get rid of what you've got".

Garden = decimated!!

Yeh it's pretty strong stuff. I'd advise using a breathing mask - probably overkill, but it is pretty toxic if you're spraying any real amount and you end up breathing it.
