Had a friend who moved to HK last year and even though income tax is 17% there he estimates that the excess in take-home pay has been spent entirely on rent - on a place quite a bit smaller than where he was living in London.

Yeah - that's what I've heard too, and NY is similar in terms of being expensive rent-wise. Part of the attraction would be in the fact that it's somewhere different - HK more so than NY.

On the 6th and 7th I did an Outdoor First Aid course. We were told that if we rang afterwards we could pay a £10 admin fee and also be accredited for First Aid at Work. I've called 4 times since and been told the person I needed wasn't there and to call back tomorrow, and now i've just been told that the paperwork has been sent off and it's too late. Gits.

I'm going with Nomad's advice... a tenner for a week can be easily expensed, especially when it is for work purposes

KLM stopped me from getting on a connecting flight despite getting to the gate on time.

Their reason, the air bridge had disconnected. Impressively, they let 3 people on after me including 2 on standby, probably in my seat too.

dvla making a quick buck. My driving licence is due for renewal in 3 months. I moved last week and have been updating all my details etc. They process my new card and paper part for FREE no problem, going through the whole making me a new card and admin stuff. Then I receive the card and it's got the same expiry! IE in 3 months time I pay them to do what they have just done for free 2 days ago!!! crazy!

If you've got a photo licence, take a closer look as it'll have an expiry date on it. Usually 10 years after it was issued.

haha, its actually a massive deal. If you have an accident and your driving around with an expired licence, say goodbye to your insurance claim, and expect a few big bills.

my mum didnt notice it had expired 2 years ago, went to a driver awareness course which she had to hand in her licence, and they didnt even clock that it had expired. that would have been interesting.
