List 'O Bugs / Requested Changes
Current Bugs/Things in need of change in R:TW v1.0
Stolen from the offical forums ![]() 1. Fix bridge battles. Too many men simply wander into the water and drown. That's not real life. (This effect also occurs on any perilous edge, as in #33. I like to call it "Lemming wars!") 2. Fix groups. When you create a group, you may lose control of it, even if you don't click the AI button. If you click the AI button, you will almost certainly lose control. My understanding of the AI is that it's supposed to help you out, not ignore your orders. (Related to #5?) 3. There are occasional CTDs, though I haven't figured out what causes them. ADDENDUM: "I found the reason for CTD (crashes). My game almost always crashed soon after battle started. This was especially in town battles, that hardly never worked. I tested everything and when I disabled sounds (mute SFX), game has never crashed. I am 100% sure, but it seems that when sfx is on and I have generals cavalry in battle, it crashes. First I had SB128 on, but I tested and same happens with integrated 5.1 ac97 sounds too. So, BUG: Keeping SFX on, (may) crash the game. (I don't personally get crashes 100% of the time..) ADDENDUM II: Found a place where I CTD EVERY time. Started campaign as scipii and senate ask me to take sarycuse. so I go there next turn and if I ask to fight battle myself on battle map it crashes to desktop- continues as normal if I ask to calculate automatically. 4. Fleets get stuck in river mouths and can never be moved again. 5. Sometimes, giving orders to some units also gives orders to units that are not selected. (ohh this one gets my goat, so to speak..) 6. The AI allows reinforcing general and his bodyguard of calvary to lead the attack rather than sit back and use his command influence, resulting in general's death nearly 100% of the time. 7. Ship combat: Doesn't give you the correct ships sunk all the time. Shame since it said my boat survived but was really sunk with two elephant units on it. 8. "I withdrew a mauled army from a battle with the Gauls. Several units, including the general, made it off the battle map. When the campaign came back up, my general fell over dead and the army survivors were nowhere to be found." (Bug, or feature??) 9. Fix the issues for legions in testudo formation. Currently they'll randomly stop accepting any commands, which makes testudo effectively useless. 10. fix units ignoring special ability or change of speed orders given when paused. 11. "The enemy (Gauls) retreated and my general got a cowardice trait." (This has happened to me too, even if the general has been fighting..) I can now confirm that the trait comes when the enemy retreats without a battle, and your guy raises his sword and says "Victory!" 12. "Troops fall off stone walls way too easily. They fall off when they're deployed, they fall off when they travel, they fall off when they shift position. I've lost hundreds of soldiers before the fights even begin, because they fall off the wall." (Related to #1.) 13. Separate from the mouse sensitivity issue is the campaign map mouse lag issue. Mouse lag on the campaign map can be pretty severe (apparently even on some higher-end systems, and it seems, mostly or exclusively on Geforce FX cards). Oddly, mouse lag dissappears while the map is scrolling, and while the Senate tab movie is being displayed, which is what makes me think it's a bug or at least a patchable issue of some kind, rather than a simple performance issue. 14. replays are not replaying correctly (similar to an issue in prepatched MTW) 15. Game will not allow me to disband mercenaries in some places. 16. "in one of my settlements, all the town guards cards when you click on the settlement show as a plain white card and turn grey when selected. Alternatively the same type of unit created in a different settlement would appear as normal. The units missing their real pictures would continue the entire game without their pictures." 17. Urban Cohorts sometimes march in a semi-testudo formation, where the soldiers have their shields as if they were in the tortoise formation, but they travel in the standard battle line formation. And they travel very slowly and get exhausted in short order. It often times takes a great deal of doing to get them to stop doing this. This is all without orders to get into that formation, and without a missile weapon in sight. 18. Protectorate broken? "I was never able to obtain from a faction to become a protectorate, even after blocading their last port and sieging their last city, when they were clearly beaten." (Some have said offering money along with the request gets you into negotiations. May not be a bug after all.) 19. Fix 'outrigger' bug with ships (sail will appear slightly offset from ship). 20. Fix siege bug where you can sally out and hurry in again and the game calls it a draw (siege is lifted). 21. Fix situation where legionaries will attempt to throw pila, when they have in fact run out (meaning they all go through the aiming animation but throws nothing), then realize they haven't got any more, and then finally draw their swords. 22.During a battle with reinforcements, sometimes the players will play the reinfocements of a few units while the allied AI takes charge of the main army. 23. Fix the problem where occasionally saves are becoming corrupted. 24. Some times after a battle is closed out in the campaign screen I am getting double casualties. So like a unit takes a casualty of 1 in the fight. And in the battle screen this is recorded and the card looks correct. But after going to the campagin screen the card is short an additon 1 casualty for a total of 2 casualties. 25. "I had three spies inside a Carthagenian city. I then marched an army over and besiegedthe city. After a few turns the Carthagenians sallied forth to fight me and I easily defeated them. I assumed that the city would now be under my control, but it wasn't. It was now occupied by a rebel force and my spies were gone. I got a message saying that one of my spies had increased a trait, but when I tried to click to open his information scroll, nothing happened. All three spies just vanished with no clues as to where they could have gone. After winning that battle the city immediately belonged to rebels. Normally when you capture a city it actually becomes yours. In this case it was if a rebellion happened inside the city as soon as the Carthagenians sallied forth, and then aliens abducted my spies. Keep in mind that everything I explained happened on the same turn." 26. Generals leaving town already set to AI; AI will switch from what you set it to (ie, "growth") to something else. 27. On page 39 of the manual it says that spies can improve order if you put them in one of your own settlements. I've tested this over and over and there is no effect. 28. a general when defending a city alone does not have the option of retreating, so usually i end up losing him but when i automatically resolve the issue, he ends up escaping to my next city with some of his bodyguards.. Wouldn't it save alot of of time just to have the option of abandoning the city (like in mtw) 29. The key mappings for TW camera movement changes during a battle. Initially, double clicking a unit on the map moves the camera behind the unit, as it should, but at some point later it pops up a unit description window instead. I don't know what causes the change. Dbl clicking a unit card still causes the camera to move behind the unit. 30. the key mapping for tilting the camera only works sometimes. Other times the plus/minus keypad keys just move the camera forward and back. 31. Macedonian Royal pikemen don't have pikes - they have normal spears. I think this is a bug, as I assume they are supposed to be upgrades of the Phalanx Pikemen. 32. The Large Temple_of_Governors (for Pontus and Macedon) ony has a law bonus of 2. This is almost certainly an error, since the ordinary temple is 2, and the awesome temple is 4. 33. The gauls bought off one of my family members. I sent over a diplomat to buy him back. When this happened, he was adopted by a different branch of the family, and thereafter he and all of his children show up twice in my family tree. 34. When attempting to cross a bridge, troops in formation stop halfway across and start running backwards to reform off the bridge and then forwards to the fight again, then back etc etc. 35. chariot archers- they don't shoot on the move to the side or back only shoot in front unless in the cantabrin circle. they should be able to shoot back and in front because the unit description says they can and the unit card indicates they are shooting "bow and arrow icon" but they are not physically doing it 36. sometimes, when inside the city, Velites will not throw their javelins until an enemy actually strikes them. RELATED? "I had my attacking principes on top of the wall, the Numidian general's unit was below on the street. Ordered principes to javelin them (the javelin w/ the little green arrow showed up and everything), but they would not until I enabled fire at will mode." (My Velites were already in "fire at will" mode. Tried getting them out of it and clicking the enemy again, but that didn't make them throw.) 37. On the pre-battle scroll where the particpating armies and their reinforcements are listed you can left-click on any general's portrait and move it around anywhere on the scroll as if it was a unit card. 38. "I have attacked the greek city towns recently, and their towns say they have large and epic stone walls, however they are only really regular stone walls on the campaign map, and within the actual battles." 39. On the campaign map, if you have the the mini-map zoomed in, and alt+tab out, when you come back the mini map will be split into 2 different overlaying maps: One is the map which has the faction locations and colors, and the other is the geographical map. 40. When alt+tabbing, many unit pics and other pics turn completly white. Some times they come back, some times they don't unless you restart the game. 41. In 2 battles now, big siege battles with ~900+ per side, the music has gotten stuck on a loop at the end of the battle. It repeats one short snippet of the music over and over, and there is no way to stop it short of exiting the game and starting over. 42. Wonders of the the World don't always work correctly. When you take control of them, you get the benefits and they show up in the Settlement Details as appropriate, labeled as Wonder. Eventually these benefits disappear. I don't know how long it takes. 43. if you obtain a city from a Roman faction by diplomacy (actual diplomacy, not a bribe), the Senate orders you to return it just as if you had taken it with a bribe. Something that would not would ordinarily happen in gameplay, but if you take a settlement from one Roman faction, give it to another, and then take it back, the Senate will give you missions to give it back to both. Eg, you take Messana from Scipii, give it to the Brutii, then take it back for yourself again. The Senate will give you missions to return it to Scipii and Brutii. You can't possible complete both missions. 44. Playing as Carthage on vhard/vhard. Julii always send a fleet to Caralis, and I missed intercepting it before it landed troops. Normal is an attack next turn and a loss for Carthage. Well screw'em. I disbanded my town guards and pumped up taxes to very high. Town revolted before Julii could attack, which is what I wanted. What surprised me is that the Julii not only didn't attack the town but stayed there for about 10 turns. I go to investigate and they put another stack of about 900 troops which is also not attacking the rebel town. Problem is the rebel army is about 80 guys and there are no walls, the computer just won't attack it. So the Julii have a massive army outside an undeveloped town, and they won't attack. Its like the AI is scripted to attack Carthaginian town and it keeps stalling since the town isn't Carthaginian. 45. "I had a spy in the city which I then assaulted, got beaten, and when back on the campaign map the spy said 'counterspying' although the city was still in the enemie's hands. That was actually the only time I heard a spy say that he is 'counterspying'." 46. Egypt cannot build dockyards so they cannot get the largest ships on their build list. 47. "Was asked by the senate to take a Gaul town even though I was not at war with them -took the town and on the next turn the Gauls asked for a ceasefire for which they were willing to pay 2 installments of £5000 cash. The next turn £5000 arrive no probs. The following turn my end of month summary stated that the Gauls had made the second payment and that my treasury balance was now £9000 however down the bottom right where your treasury balance is it only showed £3000. So somehow the game had lost £6000 and the same screen was showing two different amounts." 48. One of the macedonian Pantheons is mispelled "Pentheon" 49. A couple squares north of Trier, where the roads come together, the roads on the battle map are clearly messed up. Fight a battle there and you'll see what i mean instantly. 50. Sometimes when you bribe a general from another faction your family will stop having heirs. It's very frustrating for your line to end even though you have perfectly married and FERTILE family members. 51. there are some instances where missile cav in skirmish mode can't move. 52. Attacking missile units in seige have unlimited ammo. 53. Fight to death and walls: When I send a unit on the walls...and they lose..they automatically keep fighting to the death...same for enemy units....quite acceptable...althought I think men on walls should not be all superheros and also be routing sometimes. When I send a unit on the walls, and they win...they sometimes keep fighting to the death, even though there is not a single enemy soldier in the vicinity. I cant get them to control anymore. Please note that they had already won from an enemy unit without fighting to desth. But as time passes by they turned into "fighting to death". When I send a unit in a Siege tower, sometimes it does not have the chance to even get on the walls. Thats ok, but when they keep fighting to the death, and I send another unit trough that same siege tower it seems that the reinforcement unit instantly starts to "fight to the death" as well. Even though not even a quarter of the unit managed to reach to get on the walls.. The rest stays stays in tower.. "and Fights to the death"" . With actually no fighting at all. 54. When I attacked Thessalonica from the seaside with my faction leader, a strange bug occurred. I didn't have enough move points to besiege the city in this turn, but when he and his army left the ships, he did it anyway. I did hear the "No more moves, sir", but he continued nonetheless. 55. I loaded a game where I was besieging Sparta, but the army was somehow transported to another place on the map. A reload fixed this. 56. When merging a sea unit with another, and one of them is of higher experience, they automatically get the same experience. For example, you have a Bireme with 20 units and an experience of 2. You merge these with another Bireme consisting of 39 units, but these only have an experience of 1. After the merging both units have an experience of 2, even though only one man, one single man, was transferred to the other ship. 57. After removing the disc from my disc drive, I need to restart my computer in order to be able to play the game. 58. When you move an army/fleet/agent with the list of armies or agent open, the list will return to the top every time a move finishes (the army/fleet/agent is deselected) 59. Damaged city wall can't be attacked by my rams (wall is 68% damaged before I attacked, now I can't attack it with my rams ... It says 'selected unit cannot attack walls’ – but that same unit can attack an undamaged wall) 60. Autocalc sometimes gives unrealistic results: a 7 star general outnumbers the enemy yet loses (though I kinda think this is cool if it's not a bug and merely a random disaster). 61. Only the Roman archer auxilla seem to have the glints and reflections. 62. Opening a town scroll and then pressing the "show me how" button in the corner causes the "settlement details" and "ask advisor what to build next" buttons to gray out, and they will stay that way unless you start again from a save. 63. Seems units have a big problem finishing off other units. When there is only like 1 or 2 left, your guys just seem to run around them for a while before killing them. Also, had this problem taking the square once. I ran in and killed them all, at least i thought, then just sat there waiting for the timer, but it never showed. There was a single enemy unit standing in the middle of all my men, yet my men wouldnt kill him. I had to back them all off and get one unit to finaly attack. 64. Could it be made easier to click the play normal speed button in combat? I seem to have to pause then click a ton of times on the play button before hitting it. Really frustrating. Sometimes when I don't hit it it just goes back to max speed and my troops get slaughtered without direction. 65. Retraining even the smallest units with combat experience results in a full unit with that same experience, rather than diluting the experience as outlined in the manual. 66. "Publicly loyal" seems to be two different things, probably one of them was supposed to be "privately loyal" or something. Publicly loyal seems suited for the one that is a negative.

thats a lot of bugs for a "finished" game. I had a man 'fall' into the water off a bridge today but he managed to get back on (from underneath the bridge)!

Thats a very comprehensive list Evilgrin
![]() It would be nice to control which army you fight with if you have more than one which is being attacked. I had a 900 man army alongside a 100 man army and the AI attacked the smaller of the two, this means I control the tiny army instead of the huge powerful one. The AI clearly didn't know how to command and lost all of his men including his 5 stars ![]() EDIT- Just seen you nicked it from the official forums ![]()

One I've seen that only half up there, is that once I was lining up my battlelines in the highest speed and edging towards the enemy. Suddenly within a second the enemy had charged me and had started routing my troops before I could turn off the speed setting using CTRL-T. Quite irritating really.
