Fishing:

The contestants:
opy
wooly

The venue:
Turners flash (known as 'front weedy') in Wigan.

opy:

2 tench (1 of which 5lb)
1 roach the size of a fairground goldfish

wooly:

2 tench(1 of which 5lb)
1 Eel (eeew)
4-5 decent Rudd
shitloads of roach the size of fairground goldfish

I got off to a bad start too, opy did his usuall "you can have that peg, cos youre gonna get tangled in that tree"
set up with my 5lb pre-stretched line and was plumming depth (while opy caught his 1st fish) and......got tangled in the tree. :/
SO, I took that as an omen and switched spools to my 8lb line and used 2lb bottom. (thinking Ill rag the fookin arse out of that tree if it gets me again)
started off on a 20's hook and single pinky to see what was there, caught some rudd and roach then lost a decent fish so upgraded to a 14's hook (on 3lb bottom)
tried corn, no good. ended up, best bait was 4 maggotts absolutely drenched in tuti frutti baitspray.
And that tree ended up my mate, fished to the overhanging snags
anyway, 4 maggotts on the hook I knew there was a chance of a nasty eel, so once i caught that after my 2 tench I went back down to a 20's hook and 2lb bottom with single pinky and started on the roach again.

PWNT! (knew we shouldve put a bloody wager on it :/ )

lol sounds like a good little session. I've had a nightmare of a season so far, first day forgot the sodding landing net so I would get a decent size chubb on the hook. Casted just off to the side of some lillies, corn on the hook over a bed of hemp. Nice crisp take, call to my brother "grab the net!", "oi the net!" just couldn't get it onto the bank and off it went back into the lillies.

The following 2 trips have resulted in the loss of far too much tackle in trees/on the bottom.

Oh and I hate eels!

Not if my season keeps going the way it has been, well you could have pics of a hook with nothing but a leaf on.

I used to fish when I was a young lad (When I could get away without a licence!) I will always remember my cousin struggling with this one fish in a local lake, he was reeling it in and whipping the rod up trying to get it to surface. He whipped it up a little hard and the fish came flying out of the water 20 feet up into the air and sailed over us into the field behind.

Oh how I laughed for hours!

the one at the other side of back weedy!

(the one next to the canal before you get to the railway bridge and Horrocks's flash)
(Edit, Horrocks's flash is the one with loads of little islands- furthest walk)
