coming soon : Continental Domininion and Capitol Buildings
http://boards.station.sony.com/ubb/p.../000004-4.html
OMG this sounds nice. still needs to be put in concept but read this : SmokeJumperPS Developer posted 12-15-2003 10:54 AM user search report post -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hmmm...I was responding to page three comments, and I kept seeing negative comments that all tied into the idea of "I don't want to lose the "Home Continents" feeling". And y'know what? Neither do I. But I think we can change it without losing it...and change it in a way that will improve it still further. Let me spin you a yarn about "Capitol Buildings" and "Continental Domininion". (These are both concepts that will see "In Concept" soon.) These work with Dyanmic Global Lattices. The concept is simple: Each continent has a particular facility that is the Capitol. Capture that building, and you have "Domininion" over that continent. (Dominion gives the benefits of a Lock.) How hard is it to take a Capitol? Hard. You have to take 3 out of 4 other "sub-capitol" buildings in order to drop a powerful force dome around the Capitol, allowing you to attack the Capitol. Until then, it's completely invulnerable. Now...get Empire bonuses depending on the number of continents your Empire is currently Dominating (those continents you own the Capitol) on...and allow drop podding on any continent, regardless of which Empire has "Dominion". You can see that this solves the "drop pod" issue (because you can drop pod to any continent now, regardless of Lock/Dominion status), but it does something subtle also. It builds very large end-games into the taking of a continent. Because of those end-games, it's likely that Empires will settle on specific continents that it LIKES to defend. When that occurs, those continents will become the naturally-selected "home continents" of that Empire. Granted, it will be unofficial, but I'd be surprised if the Empires *didn't* decide on a Home of their own. What about you?
