Red vs Blue ends season 1, ships DVD

Red vs Blue, the fps based soap opera that grew from a video captured sketch acted out in Halo on the XBox into nineteen, 3-4 minute episodes, marks it's season finale by releasing a DVD of the entire first series.

Whilst the dialog and acting can stray more towards Coronation Street than Pulp Fiction and differentiating one drawling US voice from another can be a little hard for the unAmerican, there are some nicely observed references to the online gaming experience. The tank they can't get to switch out of auto fire without wasting thier teammates rings a few bells and the whole exercise is an interesting marker of things to come.

For the price of a retail game and with a little ingenuity, budding movie makers can produce animated features that would put many nationally syndicated Saturday morning cartoons to shame. With the next iteration of games promising more free form model movement and facial expressions, a full length movie, produced entirely within a gaming universe, cannot be far away.
