Ashbringer info

I was browsing around, looking for stuff about Naxxramas, when I happened across this site: http://wowwalkthroughs.free.fr/Ashbr...er-Quests.html

As some of you may already know, in Naxxramas is a boss encounter similar to the bug family in AQ; there are four Death Knights, and the order in which you kill them determines the loot you get at the end. One of them is Highlord Mograine, the father of Scarlet Commander Mograine, who i'm sure you all remember from Scarlet Monestary.



If you kill Mograine last, then he can drop the Corrupted Ashbringer.

What I haven't seen mentioned around here yet is the following: If you take the Corrupted Ashbringer to the Cathedral section of SM, then a special event is triggered. The mobs in SM all go friendly to you, the cathedral doors open and you can go inside and chat to Mograine.

He says something along the lines of "You carry my father's sword. My army is yours. Lead them...Lead them to cleanse these lands of the tainted. You must cleanse the defiled."

But before anything else can happen, Highlord Mograine himself, wearing full Dreadnaught for some reason (I thought he was meant to be a paladin?), shows up and starts talking to his son. Translated from Korean:

Scarlet Commander Morgrain<ashbringer>: Reuno(sp?)...
Son: Father... But, how...?
Morgrain: Did you think I would forget about your betrayal? Did you think the death would fade my memories of your flawlessly planned betrayal? Even long after my heart stopped, my blade shook from your cruelty. My blood boiled... I throughly learned of your unspeakable deeds after the death. However, I am no longer bound by Kel Thuzard's shackles. Son! I fought for the righteous. I am the Ashbringer...
Son: Please forgive me. Father...
Morgrain: You are forgiven, son...



The father then one-shots his son and all the other mobs in the instance vanish with him, except for one. Who? That's right, Fairbanks, the undead guy behind the secret door.

The Highlord runs off to Fairbanks and cleanses him back into a human somehow, and then you get to chat to Fairbanks about the Ashbringer sword.

Again, translated from Korean. The stuff inside quotation marks is the typical chat option you get at the bottom of each page for long conversations like this.

You know of nothing? The blade you carry on your back was named Ashbringer after it's owner.
"You mean Morgrain?"


Yes, Grand Crusader Morgrain... The creator of Scarlet Crusade, a knight who possessed righteousness and grace. He was betrayed by his own son and was killed in Stratholm by Kel Thuzard's army. So I came to this place...
"What are you talking about?"


The Scarlet Crusade was created by Grand Crusader Morgrain, Inquisitor Isilien(sp?), and Commander Abendis(sp?). It was a righteous group when it started. Back then, there wasn't the insanity and false beliefs you have witnessed. At least before the so called Commander slowly sank to the corruption...
"I still don't understand."

The Grand Crusader was the most crucial part of Scarlet Crusade. People called him Ashbringer to honor his deeds in battles against Lich King's army. Morgrain often went into battles with only his blade and belief and single handedly destroyed undead armies unscarred. You still don't understand? Even the death feared him! His name alone was enough to send his enemies retreating in fear.
"Surprising story. Then, how was he killed?"

There is only one possible reason to such hero's death. (Player's Name)! Unreversable tragedy. That is all. The so called Commander[the son] made a dark pact with Kel Thuzard. Ultimately, Morgrain[the father] was slain by undead army waiting hidden. If it wasn't for the betrayal from the most trusted one, such a tragedy wouldn't have occurred.
"Then that person is..."

<Inquisitor Fairbanks nods>
yes, Scarlet Grand Crusader Morgrain's son. As far as I know, the Commander [son. the same name is very confusing] is the same person. The one who lured his father to his lurking enemies was his son.
"How do you know of this?"

<Inquisitor Fairbanks lifts his shirt, showing the countless wounds on his body>
Yes, I was there. I was the most trusted advisor of the Grand Crusader. If I had known back then... Even now, I believe it was my fault such tragedy occurred. Would you believe that there were thousands of scourge lurking in the place?
"Thousands? Just to kill one person?"

Of course, if that one person is the Ashbringer, you fool! As the scourge surrounded us, Morgrain drew his sword... his son immediately abandoned the scene. The scourge attacked with unbelievable ferocity. But...
"But? But what happened?"

Even thousands were not enough to bring Morgrain down.
<Fairbanks goes in deep thought briefly>
Thousands attacked, but all fell before Morgrain's might! By the strength of the light! They fell as they attacked. In the chaos of battle, I noticed that Morgrain's son was watching from afar. I yelled to him. "Rueno, hurry! You have to help your father."
"So the son helped?"

<High Inquisitor Fairbanks shakes his head>
No... He just stood still and watched us as the seemingly endless swarm of scourge attacked us. Then, I was worn out from the battle. I fell and lost consciousness. The scourge could kill me with ease. However, they paid no attention to me as the main focus of their attack was to slay the grand crusader.
"Keep going."

I had no choice but to pretend as if I was dead under the piles of slain scourge. All I could hear and feel under the piles of dead bodies were complete darkness, and the sound of battle. The sounds of clashing swords, grinding teeth, something being crushed... All I could hear were horrifying sounds. Then, after a while, after a sudden silence, I could hear the grand crusader calling me. "Fairbanks! Where are you. Fairbanks? Answer me!" At that moment, an unbelievable event occurred. Unbelievable betrayal finally surfaced...
"That is..."

His son picked up the Ashbringer(sword) and stepped his father's heart from behind. I will never forget Morgrain's final words. " What have you done, Rueno? Why have you done such a thing?"
"You are right. It is a great tragedy."

Morgrain and his sword are like one. Do you understand? That event made the sword cursed and Morgrain became one of Kel Thuzard's knights. Then, I swore to myself that I would reveal the truth to the world if I survive. Even under the piles of slain the slain scourge I saved up enough energy to escape the ruined city.
"So you escaped?"

I escaped. I could escape to the Scarlet Monastery because his son was still in shock of what he had done. As soon as I stepped into the monastery I shouted, almost a scream. I spoke of the truth to anyone who wished to hear. I knew my life would be threatened if followers of Morgrain[the son] found out that I was alive, so I seeked refuge in the darkest part of the monastery where it hid many secrets[referring to that little room he is found in when we do SM]. However, even back then, there were many who trusted my story. Thus the Argent Dawn was born.
"That's an unbelievable story. Then this sword is redeemed?" <--- [dunno where the heck the idea of the sword suddenly becoming redeemed came from... but just translating.]

The sword you hold in your hand seems to be beyond slightest possibility of being redeemed. The grudge is ledged too deep inside. However, do not abandon hope, Hunter! If there is an end, there is a beginning.
Seek his son, who possesses unequaled faith and righteousness. It is rumored that he may be able to create a new Ashbringer even without the old one.
"Even his son is dead now."

<High Inquisitor Fairbanks shakes his head>
No, orc! Only one of his son is dead. The other still lives.

Outland...Go and seek him.



So it would seem that we can't get Ashbringer in this patch, but we're going to have to wait for the expansion to get it, where we can go to Outland and find Mograine's other son.

Aside from the waiting for the expansion part, this is pretty badass.

Apparently, the fellow you need to get, Mograine's other son, is one of the party who headed over to the Outlands in WC2 and they're still alive. You meet him in the first settlement, or some such.

Same shape, different skin though by the looks of it. I also doubt a hunter able to do Naxx would be wearing them as they're a bit poo.

might be wearing them to save on repair bills in SM? Also, he may have some kind of disease cos he looks kinda blue. But its not really here nor there is it
