May won't rush to press the Article 50 button which is what places her miles ahead. I can easily see a lot of rhetoric about getting as much in place before pressing start on the countdown timer. Markets will be tested each time one part of a non-EU puzzle is placed but they won't go full tilt, just enough to get people jittery. The longer this phase goes on, the more chance there is that we won't ever leave the EU. A second referendum however they spin it is going to come before we commit to leaving.

2.To have the worst of luck when playing in groups, although having the best intentions an act occurs which usually results in multiple deaths, maimings or destruction of property.

At least it's guaranteed to be a female. I can't imagine how the liberals are comprehending this - the Tories being progressive once again?

Yes that woman who voted against gay marriage and wants to bring back fox hunting is mightily progressive. Oh no wait im wrong she has a vagina from which babies have come out - shes a fucking left wing commie.

Also you realise anyone using phrases such as "I cant imagine how the liberals are comprehending this" immediately sounds like a bellend right?

It's progressive in this case because it's a female leader - if political opinions were taken into account when determining that the gender would be irrelevant. They may not be the 'right sort' of women for liberals, but they're still female and apparently that alone is progressive.

It's a bloody dilemma for some people I know.

Not that I mind at all how I'm perceived on here, but humour me: on what basis? By liberals I was referring simply to the left wing of the political spectrum.

And you dont feel that by defining a woman as being progressive regardless of her views you are basically ignoring any sexual equality? Call me crazy but i tend to decide on whos a cunt or not based upon their views not upon the contents of their pants.

I absolutely agree with you on determining a person by their views; my point is that there are certain fringe aspects of liberals (i.e. the left) that do not agree with this (e.g. many of those idiots in Momentum). That's not to say every Labour supporter or liberal is like this of course, but the thought of those people trying to rationalise their inherently conflicting views in an instance such as this is amusing.

This is why we now hear language such as she's the wrong type of woman, she's basically a man, she's not a female, she only got there because she acted like a man etc.

They wont - people who hold extreme political views dont try and reconcile them against reality otherwise they wouldnt be able to hold them.

To summarise my feelings on this at the moment.

1. We held a referendum that gave a mandate for change with the EU - unfortunately it neglected to mention what this change should actually be and given this is a massively nuanced issue the next prime minister will have a massive amount of leeway in the way they approach this decision. This was obviously a bit of a massive clusterfuck.

2. The decision to leave the EU will bypass parliament (legal challenges aside) and thus be wholly shaped by the prime minister. Thus its fair to say the next prime minister will be one of the most important we have had for god knows how many years

3. Only a small segment of the population will get to vote on who this prime minister is. They are not a representative sample of the UK

4. One of the two candidates for being the most important prime minister for xx years only actual policy (beyond fox hunting) is that shes a mother who is telling everyone everything is going to be alright. Im not actually exaggerating here - this is the actual content of her speeches on the economy. She will be negotiating with Angela Merkel.

"Democracy" folks - fuckit.

Leadsom is playing the mother card because she thinks it'll be popular, but that doesn't define her entire position - notwithstanding this I agree May is the far better choice and, for what it's worth, should be a strong leader and I hope her official Remain position will help unite certain aspects of the party.

That being said, no one votes for the PM other than the small number in his/her constituency on the basis that we don't have a presidential system - the vote is held by the members of the party for whom the electorate voted. A PM can resign or be subject to a no confidence vote at any time; a party can of course do so but there's no requirement to hold a new election when a new leader takes over.

The present situation isn't unique other than, I agree, the importance of the next few months. However, the Tories won the election with a binary in/out referendum expressly stated in their manifesto - had this not been the case there would be an argument for a lack of democracy but given the above the view that there's a lack of democracy at the moment is on pretty shaky ground.

We'll see whether or not we ultimately leave and, if so, whether the decision bypasses Parliament (in my view it doesn't need Parliamentary approval but there's inevitably dispute on this point with good arguments on both sides), but again with a referendum commitment in the manifesto there's no democratic deficit here.

Where has she laid out an economic policy beyond being an optimist?

I was going to make a rather large response but theres little point. It basically boils down to if you believe that the important of the next few months(years more likely it seems) should decide our reaction rather than following the normal course of things (i do) and whether you believe that the referendum should have stated clearly what people were voting for (i do). If you dont agree with either of those your point of view is inevitably but somewhat logically different.

The Times has released the audio clip that backs up their 'motherhood' quote that Andrea Leadsom is so annoyed about.

Nah it sounds like someone who hasn't the faintest idea what a liberal might possibly be outside of his own laughably narrow caricature of one. For a start I'm sure not all liberals are compulsorily-reductive autistic fuckwits only able to make compelling logical decisions on the first and foremost issue within any situation.

Anyway. Speaking of fuckwits.

From what I've heard that's the tip of the Christian fundamentalist iceberg. On the plus side at least she has laid out her opinion on fox hunting and gay marriage in far more detail that other minor issues which might be floating about. The people of this country are obviously more concerned about killing foxes than any other issues
