New PC time!

I know a few of you guys will have been expecting this. Could have done without the expense at the moment, but if I'm going to do this, I want one that I'm not going to have to touch for a few years. The parts below from PC Gamer is the build I have been looking at for a while, it originally had the 1080ti, but they changed that when they were in short supply.

https://www.pcgamer.com/pc-build-gui...end-gaming-pc/

Have also been looking at these pre built.

https://www.cclonline.com/pc/gaming-...rix-gaming-pc/

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cyberpower-...s=cyberpowerpc

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ocuk-...fs-1bw-og.html

Not sure on overclockers after remarks from Lungers and Nersh in another pc thread.

Thanks for any input in advance, really appreciate it!

said it before many times, used CCL, but I told them what components I wanted. Their work is remarkable in my experience (about 6/7 PC's).

the PC gamer build looks decent. would be going 1080ti personally.

It's good to have good cabling, the price of someone else doing it and testing it all was absolutely neglible. so why not.

I can't be arsed building my own gaming rig any more. Especially when you can buy prebuilt to spec custom rigs online. It used to be a big price difference but there's nothing in it any more. Plus you get the piece of mind that it's been properly tested and comes with a warranty of some description.

Box did mine last time. Only issue I've had is the M2 SSD died. Can't really blame them for that and it was under manufacturer warranty anyway.

https://www.box.co.uk/gaming-pcs

One before that was off Novatech, which also worked fine (and is still going).

https://www.novatech.co.uk/pc/gaming/

I only went with box for the new one because novatech didn't have what I wanted (fanless and watercooled). Although it looks like they've added to their range since then.

I seem to recall Novatech are a bit dodgy and sell stuff that's not in stock then make you wait for ages before upping the price.

Granted I bought the machine off them in 2008. So 10 years is plenty of time to go crap.

I had no trouble with my overclockers build. Well, the gfx card fan assembly fell off within 24 hours and I opted to superglue it back on rather than RMA and have no PC for as long as it took to fix. Other than that, it's been a dream.

Could be worse. Could be Jackson Pollock, and randomly throwing components at the empty case.

Haven't ordered anything yet but got it down to this, which is basically the PC Gamer build. What this be ok for the next few years?

Looks like a beast, although the gfx and ram can be had quite a bit cheaper i think via eBuyer daily deals or whatever.

What are you planning to use this PC for? If it's just for gaming, do you really need an i7-8700k? You can get an i5-8400 for half the price, gets the basically the same framerate in games.

1080Tis are very similar perforance-wise - this one is ~£200 less than the one you marked.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-GTX-108.../dp/B06XVG7M23

You could probably also make savings on the cooler, the PSU and the case, and not lose anything in terms of quality.

Now, maybe, but the 8700k is far more future-proof and for this budget it makes sense. Kinda. I'd go Ryzen 2 personally but that's just me.

What about going mini:

https://www.scan.co.uk/products/cors...2tb-hdd-8gb-gt

not a huge difference between 7700k and 8700k for gaming and the 7700k will be fine for a few years yet I imagine.

The difference between 7700K and 8700K is a 50% multithreaded performance increase for £50. I wouldn't get the 7700K knowing it has to last as the 270 platform has a year less support and is a dead end as far as upgrades go.

I do like that case though. It doesn't seem to be covered in unicorn puke chavlights.

There's an 8700k version but it's a lot more expensive.

Are games getting better with multi-threading now?

If you are at all a price sensitive shopper then a £1200 PC now and another one in 3 years leaves you with a better rig.

Mine from a year and half ago runs everything perfect even with a 1070, the only thing I haven't hit with is VR.

i have to back up Devs on this one having built all my previous PC's i went with CCL on the latest one and the cable management and quality really is very well done.
They also stress test the machine for faults to ensure nothing dodgy is happening.

The new Ryzen2 2700's are wonderful from what I've heard.
