Having real problems stopping watching Designated Survivor. It's a good job there are 21 episodes in season 1, otherwise I'd be staying up all night. After binge watching all 9 seasons plus movie of 24, it's nice to be reminded that Kiefer can actually act.

Altered Carbon - New jobby on Netflix, watched the first couple of episodes. Still in 2 minds, story is decent enough, there's just nothing that makes you want to keep watching.

Jury is still out

The towering influence of BR cannot be understated. 15 years or more after it the Altered Carbon book in 2002 still cribbed it wholesale as did everyone doing anything remotely cyberpunk inbetween.

I think they've done a cracking job of this. The sets and CG are superb and if anything they've actually made the meths a far more oppressive and dangerous presence by ep 3 than they ever were in the book. Liking the flashbacks/sides as well to describe Takeshi's background inline.

Likewise , I’m a bit bemused by the reviews. I am a huge fan of the books though.

Personally after seeing a hundred good source materials fucked over in film and TV over my lifetime I welcome the advent of meaty, chewy slow burner entertainment like this, BSG, Westworld, Expanse, BR2049 etc. I can totally understand that others look for something more passive though so can see why the reviews end up where they do.

I think a lot of the criticisms of the show do seem to be from things that come from the book so i guess not everyone wanted a faithful adaption. The change of the envoy background is a bit annoying though.

Finished it this afternoon, turned out to be a good watch.

Story was decent enough. My only gripe was the ending felt a bit hollow after the build up.

Still well worth a watch

Not new I know, but new to us... the wife and I are working our way through Weeds on Netflix.

A great easy watch every night. Really enjoying it.

Don't know how we missed it.

2 eps into Altered Carbon and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. I wasn’t aware of the books either.

The Sinner on Netflix. Cracking 8 episode series (starring Jessica Biel, with a weirdly decent turn by Bill Pullman).
We binged all episodes last night into the early hours of the morning. Definitely a “let’s watch just one more episode” show.

Really enjoyed The Sinner, good acting by all concerned!

Watched over 2 nights, in between re-binging Line of Duty series 1 to 4 back to back.

Thought it was working fine until the mystery is revealed. Which completely undoes any sort of logic to what had previously been set up.
