If you want to watch US tv that's actually good, Studio 60 is where all the kool kats are at.

Studio 60 surrounds the workings of a national network broadcaster in America and its flagship show, something akin to what I've seen of Saturday Night Live.

It has Matt Perry in one of the central roles as the new head writer and co-director of the flagship show it and a pretty good cast surrounding him. The story is entertaining, well written and probably enlightening with some genuinely funny moments. It also has a good mix of likeable characters with those you love to hate, top class totty and good dialogue and sub plots seal the deal for me.

Ooh the "Smith" with Ray Liotta and Amy Smart (the thinking man's harlot) pilot is rather good. Got the other two eps on the DL now, it looks rather promising.

Yeah, Smith is very good. Also worth catching are: Jericho (3eps), The Nine (pilot only so far), The Black Donellys (pilot only), Kidnapped (3 eps), Heroes (3 eps i think), Traveler (pilot only), Studio 60 as mentioned, Knights of Prosperity (pilot only), Runaway (pilot only i think). There are probably more that i've forgotten, but i've seen all these pilots so far.

From CNN.com:

NEW YORK (AP) -- Here's something Ray Liotta and Virginia Madsen won't be putting on their resumes: stars of the first new TV show to bite the dust this fall.

"Smith," the Tuesday night CBS drama with Liotta leading a band of high-stakes thieves, is off the schedule, the network said Friday. It will be replaced temporarily by reruns of "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" and "Criminal Minds."

This sucks, i really liked Smith.

Heroes is worth checking out. Sorta X-men style series.

The Unit, looks good too, but haven't got round to screening any of it

Gah I liked Smith too. I think Studio 60 is the best of the lot you've mentioned. Jericho and Heroes also stood out for me, not liking this kidnapped thing too much though.

Runaway is good, 2 eps of that now. The others are too old for them to even be on giganews, and I cba with torrents etc. I'm sure they'll be rereleased if the series are continued.

Not sure what to think of Jericho. Like the idea, but some of the plot and dialog is pretty poor. I can see this getting the chop.

Kidnapped hasn't been cancelled Cakes my dear, it was only ever going to run for one season.

Of all the pilots, The BLack Donnellys was far and away my favourite. The series doesn't start until january though, but it really is awesome.

It was the worst by far though (Kidnapped that is). Trolled through newzbin and started DLing "The Class" (3 eps out). It's an OK waste of time with some decent laughs but it's nothing great yet.

Got hold of the Black Donnellys and it looks promising though I wouldn't say it's the best... The Knights of Prosperity was hilarious, absolutely cracked up watching that and Traveler looked pretty good too.

The Black Donnellys has Olivia Wilde in it as the female lead and she is hot as all hell, she played Alex the lesbian is The O.C. for those of you who watched that, though she's dark haired in this.

Studio 60 is very good. it is somewhat preachy like west wing was in bits but overall very good.

I liked kidnapped so far ... but meh

I also liked the Dexter pilot ( the books are an ok read )

awwh, smith cancelled already?!? What is is with these american networks, SOOOO many things get cancelled...blades gone, now smith, 3 moons was kinda wierd but thats out now, windfall gone, sg1 has been canned, already gone are surface and invasion - what next?

Ive not seen studio 60 but thats in the balance too it seems http://www.buddytv.com/articles/stud...ping_bloc.aspx

Essential viewing (for me) still includes the wire, now on its 4th series, that is a seriously gritty series about the drug problem in baltimore, gets right in there with the problem, doesnt pussy about with it....also pleased to see The Unit back for season 2, weeds s2 is hilarious of course. Amazing race reality series 10 is excellent too, but may not be everyones cup of tea.

New stuff thats worth a mention is standoff (hostage negociation drama), Justice (tv lawyer series about inner workings of high profile cases) and eureka (quite odd to describe, see the blurb if you like sci-fi comedy) ...... not too sure about heroes and jericho yet, gonna see how they go.

My 'its a bit meh' list includes kidnapped, numb3rs, shark (just cant deal with 7 of 9 in a 'normal' series) and vanished, cant see these lasting too long.

Oh and flop of the season, aquaman sort of a man from atlantis remade as a surf dood...complete rubbish, cancelled after the pilot, not surprised.

its pretty damn good...altho this season a part of it is focussing on the political race as well as the corners, with characters that were set up in previous seasons so it might be a bit confusing but if you want a good place to start, season 3 was awesome.

Heroes is by far my favourite show from the new stuff and it's swiftly overtaking lost and others as well. Top show .. as mysterious as lost but you actually get consistent plot movement!

Yea Heroes is the best one but Dexter is also very good. Studio 60 has gone a little downhill from a promising opening two eps but it's still OK.
