PSP Production moves

The popularity of the Sony PSP has amazed everyone, not least Sony themselves who yesterday announced that they had began outsourcing production of the baby handheld to a Taiwanese electronic-parts maker, Hon Hai. An SCE representatives told Gamespot that as of this month the company will be producing parts for the PSP in China's southern city of Shenzhen.

The point of the move is to try and make the production process more flexible with a final aim of lowering the overall costs. Originally the PSP was manufactured in SCE production facility 'Chiba prefecture', near Tokyo, but with the huge demand for the handheld, along with todays release in Europe something had to be done.

Hon Hai and Sony already have a good working relationship as the company already helps produce the slimline versions of the PlayStation 2. With the news of the PSP move, SCE is also looking in to the possibility of moving more production over to China in the coming months.
