Thumbs up Firefox speed tip

1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages 2-3 times faster now.

Speedtip 2.Add " /Prefetch:1"to the target line of your firefox shortcut i.e. "D:\Program Files\Firefox\firefox.exe" /Prefetch:1"

Speeds up initial loading of FF.

Unhappy

Worked for me.
FF now loads pages supper fast so cheers for that funkeh

only one thing to point out if no one spotted it you need to put
"about:config"
in the address bar, with out a space

(me hits funkeh's rep button repeatedly, hmmm doesnt work :/)

Nono. Pipelining is a HTTP/1.1 wotsit where you request several files on *a single* TCP connection to the web server, one after another.

Firefox (and almost every other browser) already makes several connections to a website when fetching pages - that is what network.http.max-connections-per-servlet and network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server are (which I guess you could increase a little bit too :o)

Pipelining makes it faster because there is a fairly expensive setup cost associated with making a TCP connection - and so you can use a single connection and avoid the need for repeated TCP connection setup negotiations.

If you watch the output from netstat / tcpdump while browsing with the above modification, you notice far less active connections open than without, thus far more efficient

Makes surfing far more tolerable on a slower connection

I noticed some impressive rendering web page corruption tbh. Be careful with the initialpaint delay tweak.

I found problems with webpages downloading images that were just plain incorrect when I ran those tweaks. Like they were brought out of the cache and squeezed (or stretched) into spaces where they are not meant to be.

It made my internet a lot faster, but I cant be doing with corrupt webpages tbh. Thanks Funkeh, but not for me
