Your company is taking the piss. They are claiming 45p per mile tax relief and only passing shit pence onto you.

^^ what he said... I get 45p per mile for the first 10K miles, and after that 25p per mile. I can claim the tax on the difference.

We get around that for mileage when using personal cars, as it includes wear and tear.
For company cars we follow HMRC advice, which is still 11p for a 2L diesel. They need to ensure we don't make a taxable profit.

If I connect two laptops together with a USB-A to USB-C cable, is anything going to get fried? Google isn't very clear about this. The cable is USB 3.1 gen 2 compliant if that matters.

Edit: According to Microsoft, nothing will blow up but it's not supported by Windows and you can't transfer data this way.

Friend at work has a company van (facilities manager, not a pikey) it only managed about 24mpg when new but it is going up slightly. It was costing him about £900 a year in fuel he wasn't getting reimbursed for when using it for company business, he spoke to the HMRC and they said he would need to document all his mileage (personal and work) and retain all his fuel receipts and the firm should be able to claim for the difference in the HMRC standard reimbursement rate and the shortfall.

Either most firms are not aware of this or are but presume you won't want to do it as it is a massive hassle for them and you as you need to maintain very accurate records and apportion every mile you do and every drop of fuel to work or personal mileage, the firm then need to claim that back for you, not sure how the claiming process works.

Discovery Sport. It was my choice not a fleet choice. Unfortunately at the time of ordering the method of fuel payment was different.

Can someone recommend me an RTS game please? I used to spend hours engrossed in them, and haven't played them for years, but I'd like to get back into them and have no idea which ones are good now.

My all time favourite was Total Annihilation. Supreme Commander and the C&C franchise held special places in my heart too. I've looked at planetary annihilation and whilst it appeals I'm really uncertain about the scale of the planets and the size of the units. I think I'd prefer flat maps rather than spherical ones.

Did you ever play Company of Heroes?

Old game but a golden.. will be cheap on Steam.

That's the original Company of Heros mind, not COH 2.

The sequel is still worth looking at but pales in comparison to the first.

Why has it taken me 50 years to find out that there is a push-in tab at each end of a kitchen foil or clingfilm box that stops you pulling the roll out when you unroll some?

...not all foils it seems. I have some non-descript, non-supermarket foil and no push-in tab at the sides.
I don't think I've ever heard anyone mention such a thing before, and never even bothered to take notice of the ends.

We've got bacofoil plastic things. No need for push in tabs.

Sainsburys, Asda, Aldi and Lidl all do the push in tabs on cling film. Can't speak to foil.

I've got my cars first service due. Cars less than a year old but I've been told to bring my Service Log Book but the only problem is, I don't have one.

I've had a google some links say new cars don't get one as it's all computerised some say new cars all get them.

I've already had a recall/repair for my car to fix a slight problem but I don't remember have a log book then.

Anyone a bit more clued up?

Nah, I think it's possibly because it's on a PCP finance deal. I reckon Arnold Clark keep the service log until I either buy the car outright or give it back.
