We got one (don't have it now) a decade ago. The form asked for a one word answer as to how the balance would be paid. The mortgage guy just wrote down "savings".

Not necessarily, itíll depend on whether people were specifically advised to take an interest-only mortgage.

Good luck proving that And even if they were advised to take one, that could well have been the correct advice at the time.

Yeah, although the burden of proof for PPI claims appears to be on the bank. IANAL but I also wonder how many of those interest only mortgages were refinanced post 2008, with better documentation.

Lucky enough, we've paid ours off, even with a bit of a shortfall. But when we originally took it out in the mid eighty's, they would only give us an interest only mortgage. I should have changed it years ago, but never got round to it.

Capita awarded a chunk of the £43m Palace of Westminster redesign contract. What could possibly go wrong?

Capita are currently having huge problems, hence the massive write down the other week. I'de still buy shares now whilst the goings good though, personally

Only because the Tories have dragged it miles to the right.

Hard data would suggest otherwise

GDP percentage of government spending in the UK is currently ~42%
50 year average is 43%
last year of the Labour government (pre crash) it hit 42%

So whilst the Tories are on course to reduce it less than 40% in the next few years, they are clearly incredibly bad at living up to AAVs definition of centre right. Some might almost suggest they correspond to a more common definition instead.

Not really, but it would be to a right wing supporter.

He doesnít just attack the right wing fwiw, he had a pop at anyone, he wrote a piece about Vince Cable on Saturday. Heís certainly the one of the more impartial political bloggers out there.

he literally describes "centre right" as essentially a Libertarian wafer thin state in the blog above.

I'm going to take a stab that his "impartiality" doesn't stretch to whole swathes of topics from unions, public service inefficiency, immigration etc etc.

which is fine of course, I mean he wears his political positioning on his sleeve. But if he thinks he is anything but "hard left" (which he clearly does) then he is just wrong.

Actually those are topics he has covered, in detail. Perhaps you should give them a read.

No, he just presents facts as they are. I say that as someone who is a Centralist.

Hardly his fault if the facts used in some articles prove how much a shower of shit the Tories are.

Again, I’d suggest actually reading some of the articles rather than relying on what Google reviews say about his site. Then again, most right wing voters follow ill-informed opinion pieces like sheep, so you be you.

I've read several, they are all hard left descriptions of the world imputing the worst motives possible to anyone to the right of Corbyn. I mean they are good polemic rants from that viewpoint, but centrist they are not

Oh no I completely agree, some of the die hard left are as mad as a box of frogs.. you only need to look at the students who invaded the Churchill cafe last week as an example.

Whilst I need to read more of the article,

point 2: "spectacularly missed economic targets"
point 3: "austerity based economic targets are blatantly unjustifiable"

Which I interpret as

point 2: "tories run a deficit, thats poor economic management"
point 3: "not running a deficit is unjustifiable economic policy"

So he's damning them both ways. He may have a go at the left as well as the right, but he's solely focused on negative everywhere, and only sees the negative in every fact. So without seeing that he is able to see positive outcomes and articulate opinions on what good political policy and implentation looks like, I give less weight to his negative points.

Speaking of economics, the stock market went a bit mental today.

As you say, too early to tell, but full employment appears to be buuggering things up stateside.

Way too early to say, and hindsight judgement should be treated with the contempt it deserves, but the run up in January felt very punchy. What will Small Hands say?

This from the FT sounds about right to me:

Quote:
David Kelly, chief global strategist at JPMorgan Asset Management, disagreed with the “popular narrative” that equities have been “tanking” because of fears interest rates would rise due to higher inflation.

“The somewhat untidy but nevertheless more plausible explanation is that both the bond market and stock market were overdue for a correction after a remarkably placid two years,” Mr Kelly said.
