Hitachi hard drive woes..

I've got a Hitatchi 5K250-120 Travelstar thats dead, i want to return it or at least to just check if its still under warranty (manufacturing date is January 08 so im not holding my breath)

Now, the problem i have is with the RMA site (http://www.hitachigst.com/portal/sit...port/warranty/) No matter what number from the hard drive I use, it just says that its an incorrect serial. Has anyone else logged a drive with them using this method? Am I missing something stupidly obvious?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Have a bash, if you get through let me know what the hell I've done wrong!

Was it a store bought HDD or one that was inside the PC when you purchased it.
I have come across a drive at work (can't recall what model) but it wasn't a standard serial number due to it being oem for PC manufacturer.

Cheers for the input guys.

It was inside a HP 530 cheapo laptop. Looks like a quick email is the easiest way

I had the exact same circumstances the other week (Hitachi Deathstar) mate and I couldn't get any numbers to work either...

Keep me updated on how you get on please.

(It was out of a Dell desktop)

If they're out of an OEM machine and not store bought, the warranty will be with the manufacturer of the PC and not Hitachi. They'll most likely tell you to go away and speak to the PC manufacturer.

We've had the same with HP machines, so I'd suggest as others have done it probably due to being an OEM serial. Best to contact HP, depending on who you get you might be able to get a proper serial from them.

This.

OEM basically translates as "Fuck off, we want nothing to do with you". Although they are cheaper. So Ill keep buying em
