Coverting .txt to .asc or .csv to .asc

Hello geeky brethren

I'm in need of a means to convert a csv file to ascii format. Anybody know of a simple means of doing this? It's a rather hefty dataset of some 3000 records so the online java methods don't work.

I've tried opening it in notepad and checking the path and formatting drive C and Maj's mum but to no avail. Also Owen's cock smells.

All suggestions gratefully received.

Did you try opening Maj's mum in notepad though?

That was a serious suggestion

Although for comedy value, Maj's mum will re-type it, its only 3000 records

The shitbox database import dialog will only accept .asc format and I can't find anything that will convert from txt to asc or csv to asc or indeed anything to asc...GAH!!!! It would help if I even knew what a .asc file looked like. My expectation is a pile of ascii coded shite rather than a legible file.

Can you do an export to a .asc file so you can see what the differences are?

No, it's the central uni database and the Crypt Keepers with the access rights are loathe to give access to anyone who isn't in their little clique...as such all I get is access to the shitty unfriendly forms they deign to allow me to see and use.

Which was what I assumed to be the case to begin with but it spat it back out...my guess is that the csv file itself is fucked. Nothing is EVER simple when it comes to this malarkey.

Cheers all. /set mode +drawing_board

If you force excel to run the import wizard you can adjust column widths, the delimiters etc

Failing that, open it in notepad and look at the file structure to give us a hint (yes, another serious suggestion, notepad is your friend)

Like leady says, csv is just plain text, same as asc, .tab and .txt

notepad++, notepad2 and ultraedit to name a few will allow you to replace commas with tabs if the "asc" format is delimited by tabs.

be careful with excel as it can fuck with your data (leading zeros for example)

do you have a schema for the data to import?

do you know the way to San Jose?

do you think my bum looks big in this?
