win7 home premium being an arse

http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.as...=939N68PV-GLAN

bought that mobo for my lads machine today along with a case and win 7 home premium (retail)

he has always connected via one of these

he was on the win 7 ultimate trial and it was working fine with that. I hope this isn't what was meant with win7 home premium not supporting xp? (the wireless card has drivers for vista)

it sometimes sees the connection, when I tell it to connect it doesn't ask me for password, it just tells me it can't connect

If it is indeed because of win7 home premium then I suggest you lot get pro (i did for my pc) or ultimate if we are going to start getting shite happening like this!

yeah, even disabled the other and swapped to the other. Managed to get his driver working for his ralink pci card and it says it is working and strength is excellent but windows 7 says it can't connect.

So where's the DNS problem tag noobs!?

edit: (actually just found a win 7 driver from ralink ( http://www.ralinktech.com/support.php?s=1 ) instead of going to edimax, suppose thats like going to ati rather than gigabyte? lol...downloading very slowly)

"I hope this isn't what was meant with win7 home premium not supporting xp?" - no. the "woo, we support xp stuff" is just a vm with xp, which you can do yourself for free with virtualbox.

right, someone reccommend me either a pci card or usb wireless adaptor that actually works with windows 7 home premium 64bit. Not got time to piss around the net looking for drivers and solutions, i'd rather just nip to currys/comet and get one for my sons pc now so he is sorted on the net

had similar on xp just recently, yes not win7, where system would see a wifi network, try to connect but never get an ip. solution in the end was to disable encryption on the link, connect, then re-enable encryption. after that good everytime without having to faff about. dunno if it's worth a shot wooly

I have one sitting on a shelf somewhere... if you PM me your address you can have it gratis (gigabyte one I think) I had exactly the same problem when I installed w7 a while back. That board was a dual lan also.

going to scan with dogface in a mo so I think I'll pick my son something up

either:
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Edima...eless-PCI-card
and
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Edima...nas-to-Desktop)
of which there are drivers that work for Win7 on Edimax site

or

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Abit-...-A-World-First

which a quick google reveals people have been having problems at first but seem to be solving them easily (modded drivers are out)
